Has anyone noticed this? nearly 300 views and 0 comments or takers. Look like there are a lot of U grade haters out there.

Bein a newby, lets see if I got this right

People will send off an original MOC, to be u graded, it is then raped by some numb nut who doesn't give a f**k about MOC vintage collecting, he grades it the reseals it :!:
WTF is that all about...surely this reduces the number of Mocs available and totally undermines what SW collecting is about, ownership, trading up, ownership, trading up....not quick profit on a maybe not perfect card

Is this the right spin I have :?:

If so I now understand what bastard U grades are, and wouldn't touch with a b pole

You kinda got it in a nutshell there Michael. Because having it stuck inside a plastic coffin is so much better than its original card and bubble.

All of people that U grade will argue that what they sent in would have been in bad condition e.g. badly cracked or squashed bubble, cardback torn or creased to pieces. The problem is when you see so many cards with their bubbles still in good shape but you know the figure isn't there because it has been U graded. Another MOC bits the dust and 1 lest to collect.

Some people purposefully buy up crap cards just so they don't get U graded. It is slowly dying away I think. There doesn't seem to be the buzz anymore for them.

Here a fantastic article by Shawn: http://powerofthetoys.com/afa/

Everything you need to know there.

Check his website as well- its amazing.

Lets hope so,

I have a card that has a badly split bubble, to the extent Akbar falls out if you pick it up, so can they be resealed or is this going down the same route :?:

I like him how he is though, had a hard paper round like his owner

Wow..is this the SWFUK. Shawn....if so I'm tugging my forelock now ( steady on) just subservient northern terminology

Gonna have a good read...awesome site 8)

That's a bit ironic....

So can you repair bubble or replace it, or is that murdering :?:

He won't be going anywhere though

I did GCE s. what we called " O" levels

Got 6 and 2 A levels when exams were exams, and men were men ( not getting in touch with their feminine side   )

You can do what you want at the end of the day mate.

Some people repair stuff etc...

For me personally- I leave things as they are when it comes to packaging. I think that when some thing is altered or destroyed, I lose any desire for the item.

I have seen some amazing restoration jobs on here though of MOCs etc...

Some guys can fix a ruined MOC or cardback and make it look great.

Get what your saying, I ve seen some of the work done and agree its fantastic

I had a boxed x wing ROTJ and the ship was super grubby, stickers peeling away etc, spent a lot of time cleaning it up and it's for me to display
So might have a go at restoring the bubble, part of the fun

Thanks for the feedback and Shawns site is fantastic, well impressed

Thanks Grant! Glad to see that this is still a help to the community. I've been meaning to do a little update with tracking current U trends to see if things are really cooling or not.

Shawn...awesome reference point, thanks for the time taken there, I'm sure many people have become more educated, responsible and sensitive to the issue due to your hard work...big thanks :D

I guess that since Stefan posted this then a few people have been biting as some are marked as sold. Not surprised there have been no replies tho - can't see anyone sending a 'PM sent' - it would be like being caught walking into a sex shop

Gents,

Whilst I'm no lover of U grading I'd just like to try and temper slightly the vitriol towards the seller. I've known this guy for quite a while and he was collecting a few years back when U grading was fairly new and many people rushed to make a TON of cash out of the new fad. The seller collected these back in the day. Times and attitudes have rightly changed (see his own description!) and I know that he wouldn't consider hurting one of our carded little friends again.

The main reason for posting this is not to open the U debate again but I am pretty sure that the seller, who now has returned to the hobby, will become a member here and it's only fair not to tarnish him for past deeds (even though I believe most of these were purchased already graded).

Cheers,
Christian
