Hi all,

New member here. Thanks for letting me join. I have a collection of vintage Kenner figures and vehicles which I am looking to sell in the next few months as I feel it's time to pass them on to others who may enjoy them / want them more (fell that my kids though they would enjoy would just wreck them through rough play).

My question is about grading? How do I go about doing this? I'm not familiar with all the acronyms and the like that are used on the forum as my collection was largely got through a one off donation from family friend when I was a kid so already played with a lot before. That said I have a large number with full accessories and a few later additions which are in better nick and even a few boxed items (Hoth Radar and Imperial cannon).

Anyway apologies for long post bit if someone could pount me in the direction of a good grading guide or he like then that would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Sincerely, James

Personally, I hate grading. You're paying for someone else's opinion, when most collectors should be able to make their own mind up on condition etc. I hate the fact I can't hold the item properly in my hands and there are often massive inconsistencies with the scoring. The few carded graded items I have bought have been broken out of jail straight away.

It's quite an outlay and a time-consuming process. Financially, it's only really worth it if they score 85+. If they score in the 70's or lower, it will actually negatively effect the value.

That said, some people love graded items! The acrylic cases usually look good (although a better option is to buy acrylic cases that you can open, from GW Acrylic) and it can provide a good measure of authenticity for weapons and figures such as the vinyl-caped Jawa. However, there have been quite a few authenticity mistakes in the past!

PS- gonna move this to the Valuation Forum. Would be a good idea to post some good pics when you can and people can then help with valuations.

Hi Cazza.

Thanks for the advice.

After a bit more scrolling and googling yesterday avo I came to a fairly similar conclusion to be frank. I think a good 50-60% of what I have would maybe be in 70+ range but will have a closer look when I retrieve it all. Some will just be batched as spares.
I shan't be spending money to only get it all downgraded / written off so......

Thanks again for advice and watch this space, or new thread when it appears. But will be a few weeks to do it justice.

James

I agree with the advice Cazza has given

grading is another's opinion, and for non pristine items could end up with low grade and restrict the buyers market ( a lot of collectors don't like graded items)
gets some pics up on valuation page as you will get lots of help and advice
