Began collecting Star Wars for a second time in March 2014 after selling my vintage Star Wars collection approx 10 years ago.

When I started I didn't have a specific aim just wanted to obtain each figure on a nice card. My first purchase was a POTF Han Carbonite which looked great on the ebay pics but left a lot to be desired once in hand.

I then decided I would go down the graded route and purchased an AFA 90 Han Bedpin and Bossk. Unfortunately these turned out be Toy Tonis (I was unaware of the TT scandal) and thankfully the seller gave me a full refund.

My next purchase was a 12 Back Kenner Kenobi which I realised with help from forum members was a fake before I sent payment.

Before making any further purchases I thought it best to read as much information as possible to build my knowledge before making any further purchases.

After careful consideration I decided to try to obtain a set of the original Palitoy 12 backs (all AFA 85 if possible)

So far I have managed to purchase Luke, Vader, C-3PO, Sand Person, Stormtrooper, R2, Luke X Wing (I know its a 20 back but its such a great figure) and Death Squad Commander.

I also purchased a few POTF figure but had some bad luck with the bubbles cracking during transport. During these purchases I promised to buy a Yoda from a forum member and feel bad that I never got back in touch but I thought they would think I was just making excuses. I have not bought any further POTF figures since.

All in all its been quite an interesting 5 months and I hope to obtain the remaining 12 backs within the next 12 months.

Anyone new to the hobby my best advise would be to read as much information as possible and once you come across something you really want, and you can afford it grab it while you can, as most of the time it won't hang sbout long in the current market
Regards

Bit of a roller-coaster ride you've had there, but glad you haven't fallen off the track.

The final paragraph - very true, especially high end MOC's which seem to get more and more expensive by the day.

Sorry to hear u had a rocky start to the hobby 2nd time round :|
However great to hear things have picked up for u what with managing to get a Palitoy 12 back Luke and some of the others, well done :D

Very best of Luck with the remaining 12 backs-there is a nice Leia on eBay at the mo, not graded but totally right(know the seller and history of the piece)-would prob grade an 80 and would b another of the tough 5 to cross off the list
Do not get disheartened if u don't get the Chewie in ur 12 month window! Chances r u won't as he is the toughest and most desirable as mostly he is the one missing to complete the set.

i got put off buying carded figures, the first 3 i bought arrived with cracked or damaged bubbles and then the toy toni thing came about so i only collect loose now :)

Hi
Is that the Leia Golddie has listed?

imo toy toni scandal asides, in the last 2-3 years the hobby has had a huge influx of reproduction stuff more then ever before and is making the hobby very hard for newbies.

Re newbies, I think it depends how much they care about what they're doing and the level of research that goes in before buying & selling. Personally, I want ensure my collection is as good as it possibly can be, so spend the time and don't rush into sales where I'm not 100% sure. There are far too many crappy fb groups and folk wanting to make a fast buck from a hot topic for my liking.

'Thank the maker' for places like this, where you can get (& share) advice and make good deals on genuine items. And if you make a few friends and have a laugh along the way, all the better!

Agreed, I'd hate to be starting out in the hobby now. Toy Toni aside, the increase in repros is going to make AFA/UKG graded more of a must have for new collectors.
