Collecting in the 80s

Very true I am a bit away on current market prices, I have now got ideas for some items but not all.

I think each week I will just put a few items up for valuation, then put them up for sale on here and see if anyone wants to buy anything from me, Im not making a full list of all the items at once, as this will take up too much time, plus I dont want to have to deliver or post out 3-4000 plus items in a week.......as this is far from healthy.

So all been well on Sunday I should get around to putting a few items up.

Watch this space...

There will be a Palitoy 12 back Luke Skywalker coming up this week....super condition, like new to be fair, a great card and an amazing bubble.

I'm probably preaching to the converted but one thing I'd say is that if you've got that many items to get rid of then you're absolutely going to have to do everything by the book (like Edd and Joe have outlined).

There are people on here who'll pay you great money and you won't have to deal with the whole ebay chaos, but only if you're straight with what you're doing and how you sell. If things get messy some buyers won't go near you and you'll be left with loads of stuff to sell.

There have been sales threads on here that have become soap-opera's and the sellers have badly lost out on what they could've got for their items because buyers just don't trust them. On the reverse, people who've asked for valuations, and then set up For Sale threads with best offers accepted have done well.

Please don't take this post as anything other than good-natured advice. I've recently been involved in both good and bad sales and I know which type of seller I'd buy from again!! :P

Many thanks for the advice jedisearcher.

Im well aware how to conduct good business as Ive been involved in running a successful business for a long time.
I also only do business strictly by the book.

But to be totally fair and upfront......this coming onto this forum is a bit of fun for me, as I used to deal in and collect this product in the 1980s/90s.....the items I have owned for at least 20 years and if I am not happy with any prices Im offered I will just put them in my own loft for another 20 years.....I love the dealing aspect of all this but to be fair, Im not selling these items because I need the money.....its basically clearing space in my parents house....

The proceeds from some or all of these items will probably end up in my nephews pockets anyway...so its not going to change my life really.

It would be nice though to see fellow collectors be able to fill gaps in their collection and one of the main things for me is seeing it all go to a good home.

Mr Bob A Feet we will get round to putting some items up this weekend.......thanks for your patience....

I'd think about getting a few sold and paid for before the 6th, otherwise you'll end up paying a ton more tax on it all as it sounds like you've got some proper money tied up with zero buy in. Assuming you don't want to roll the hmrc dice!

Sorry to get all boring. I'm not a tax inspector btw - just know how the ****ers roll.

Christian sells display items- mostly acrylic cases etc. Iain is his gimp

I'm away this weekend- hope I don't miss anything!

Max..brilliant point, good thinking......maybe I should give it all to the local jumble sale then........!

They cant tax you on zero can they........?

Or even better I could sell it all at the local car boot, then give all the proceeds to charity.......0% again.

Of course I would video it all and post the link on here so you could see everyone buying it all at £1 an item....lol

Only a thought given where we are in the year and the money we're talking about.

Patience I have, deep pockets I don't! I just love stories and finds like these and look forward to seeing it unfold over the next few weeks and if I manage to pick up one item then it'll be bonus time!..;)

Many thanks anyway Max, its fine it will all go through my business anyway, it saves any future problems.
A paper or an electronic trail is easier for me.

Met Ian today very nice guy
Bought a load of star case off me ,no issues
Had a good chat with him about the stuff he is looking to sell and it looks like it's all going to go through here.
He says there will be a few items going on tomorrow all being well. But from the info he gave me there is a lot of very nice stuff but he's not sure on the current value of most of it.Hopefully I will be dealing with him again.

Many thanks Nick for the star cases, I appreciate the fair price you sold them at.

Thanks for all your advice too and yes, you convinced me here is the best place to sell as there are no fees and plenty of keen collectors who will help me value the items and hopefully purchase some too.

I gather your keen to buy some of my items and if you do, we can meet up again as we discussed yesterday.

All our items will be put on a valuation thread and then we will open a for sale thread once I have an idea of prices.
I have learnt that this is the fairest and easiest way to sell items.

Thank you all for your good advice and your help.

The first batch will be put up today.

Ian

That sounds like a really fair way of selling your stuff - you'll get honest prices and hopefully we can get some bits for our collections without the dealer markups/games. Looking forward to seeing what you have.
