In this day and age it is easy to find out if you have a collectible that is desirable or valuable.

Has anyone had recent (or any) success in finding those gems we desire from the above sources?
Or as I have discovered even the charity shops now know when they are on to a winner

In my experience any shite with Star Wars written on it commands a high figure as the standard response is "it's Star Wars it's collectable"

Me and My Dad have great success at Boot Sales.

Our best ever score is picking up the very rare tesco exclusive Hero Attax LE Card "Human Torch" for 50p in a bulk lot and then reseeling it on for £122 :D

If you talking SW then its very Difficult but I did find a complete Slave One, Ewok Village and Y Wing including bomb all for £20 8)

most none star wars collecting people dont have a clue, there is a lady in a brick a brac shop and she has a load of beaters for 10 squid each! i left a note and politely told her to lower the prices to appox 2-3 at best. She spat her dummy out and refused to lower her price. that was a year ago and guess what! she still has them for sale!

 Yep seen stuff like that before!!

Hi guys I have seen a few beater figures in charity shops but I did find these as i collect military items some time ago and they are rare, the no 2 gold ww2 divers is at this moment in time one of a kind! So those gems are out there and can be found in charity shops!
RND2.jpg

WW2 Royal Navy divers grouping, These items were purchased in a charity shop in Sheffield, These were brought in by the veterans daughter along with some other items which had been found after clearing his house, the Royal navy changed the facing of the Divers patch in 1942 from left to right so these were issued pre 1942, The three year service Chevron shows he served at least three years "active service" between 1939 and 1945 at present I believe the gold no 2 dress bullion wire version to be one of a kind i have so far been unable to locate another example, these are not to be confused with the much more common right to left facing variety. i can only speculate on this gentlemans function, Underwater explosives expert / Clearance diver / Ships Diver i believe are the most likely, i would like to think with the Torpedo patch maybe he had a connection to the midget submarine/Underwater cyclist project but many divers served more than one function aboard ship.

I know of somebody who picked up a collection of around 70 MOCs at a car boot sale for a real 'steal' of a price

Hey James. Never seen or heard of those before. Really Cool Pieces there Nice work mate 8)

Thanks Liam, divers stuff is hard to find but there were only a very few qualified divers, 2 per capital ship and a handfull of pre war port divers make these a hard set of patches to find but it does show those gems can be found in charity shops.

Great war memorabilia there, so there are still bargains to be found! in charity shops/car boots, I will keep trying on the Star Wars front! :D

i went to quite a few car boots during the summer, and picked up a load of loose figures 50p each, nien numb, leia boussh, 8d8, luke jedi, bib fortuna, squid head, just to name a few.

some bloke that had a stall full of expensive antiques wanted a tenner for a loose ree yees and £30 for a battered carded gamorrean guard

its all about rummaging through boxes of toys, its worth it in the end plus its part of the fun, i found lots of 80s figures also like ghostbusters and he-man stuff.

my dad dragged me around lots of car boots during the late 80s early 90s and thats how i picked up most of my collection, back then you would also find plenty of ships.

i never really see much in charity shops although i did find a boba fett in one about 2 years ago, now and again those vintage star wars board games pop up and the odd annual.

I remember seeing a boxed ROTJ AT-ST through the window of a closed Oxfam store about 10 years ago. I went back the next morning and it had gone :(

I used to hit the carboots every weekend back in the mid 90's and scored several cool item..yak face for 20p various ships for a few quid each. my best score was at 2011 memorabilia when I picked up a very nice conditioned Yak Face for £2 from a generic toy dealer, it was sat on top of a box of loose figures...good times. once picked up a diecast star destroyer for about 30p in a charity shop but that was about 18 years ago

Thats a great find - yak face 20p and £2.00 brill stuff mate.....good times indeed :D

I started out in 1990 collecting from boot sales.....

Best buy was being invited to some guys house and asked if I wanted to buy his collection of 5 12 backs for £15 each. At the time I didn't know better and negotiated down to £12 each as I only had £60 on me. They were Vader, Ben, Tuskan raider, 3po and Han......oh and they were Palitoy!

This lasted until about 1995 when they were featured on the Antiques roadshow and it went crazy after this.

Just been to a market in Durham this morning, guy has loads of beaters from all lines including vintage 4 for a tenner. Pretty good. Says he gets lots of people coming with boxes of toys. Here's hoping.
