Celebration Europe 2 - Essen

I'm not buying this. Something has happened here to get you excited. Has the 6 breasted Jabba bitch promised to put an appearance in or something?

BRACE YOURSELVES!!

OK guys, you've read the hype checked out the website and are really up for CE2 :)
The trouble is some of you are probably turned off by hotel costs, airport costs, transfer fees, taxis etc.
Check out the Jez solution;
I have just been informed that the Camper Van (The Falcon) is available!!
Cost of Campervan hire is £230 (Thursday pm until 0900am Monday morning) (plus optional £25 charge to reduce the insurance excess from £500 to £250.
Cost (today) for Eurotunnel crossing is £180-£200 return.
Cost for fuel?? See below.
Benson (where i and the camper van live) to Folkstone is 260 miles (round trip)
Calais to Essen is 500 miles (round trip)
Add 40 miles for incidental journeys.
Total miles is apx 800.
If the Camper Van runs at 25 MPG the cost would be; 800/25 = 32 gallons / 1 x gallon = £6.30 32 x 6.30 = £201.60
If the Camper Van runs at 20 MPG the cost would be 800/20 = 40 gallons / 1 x gallon = £6.30 40 x 6.30 = £252.00
I don't believe that the camper van is that inefficient, so these costs are worst case.
There is also the additional bonus that fuel on the continent is cheaper than in the UK, CASHBACK.

So there we have it;
Camper Van £230/£255
Fuel £250
Euro Tunnel £200
Total cost = £705
Split between 4 of us that would cost just £176
Split between 5 of us that would cost just £141

This obviously doesn't include the cost of; the 3 day pass £90, food and drink etc
and i have no idea where we will actually camp! Any ideas Dennis?

The plan would be to leave on Thursday night and drive back straight after the show in time to make the last crossing on Sunday night.

I know Grant is up for this and so is Chris (work dependent), Iain are you back on? Who else?
What are your thoughts lads??

This could be an epic adventure? Have you seen Paul? Have you seen Fanboys?
Who's with me??

First day back in the office this morning, groan.
I found out that the guy who reserved this over the weekend has had to cancel, and they have me down for it as first reserve!! CASH BACK
The Falcon Road Trip could be back on, shweet!

Yes! I am we'll and truly in.

I feel as free as Krayte Dragon, leaving the pond for the far reaches of the desert.

Nice one Grant, that makes it £352 for the 2 of us. Another joining will lower it to £235, the fourth will lower it further to £176.25. The Famous Five will cost just £141. Six being shoehorned in will be a squeeze but lower the cost to £117.50!
I'm not booking anything until we get to 3 or 4, however the Campervan is mine unless i cancel.
Oh and Diesel is much cheaper abroad so i reckon the costs will reduce even further :)

Come on vintage fans- theres a free blue snaggletooth for every participant. Not Really

This is gonna be awesome!

This sounds awesome as long as I can get the time off and find the money. Better start selling a few bits round the house!!Guys, I'll know more next week when I can speak to my boss about the time off. I'm not hopeful but I'll try. I'll just say my wife's bought me tickets to the event for my birthday, hopefully that will bring him round!!

Just looking at even more options, if we catch the 1hr 30 Ferry from Dover to Calais, its just £105! £26 per person if there is 4 of us. This deal is just getting better all of the time!

I'm so not into camping, that I honestly don't know where you can park the van. But: The wifey said there is http://ruhrcamping.de/. Now the website is very crappy and only in German. On "Preis & Leistung" (Cost & Service) there is no price for a pitch (or at least it is not advertised as such, could be that it is the 1st position in the price list, which would mean 10 Euro per night for the pitch + 4 Euro per person per night. Electricity per night 2 Euro + warm shower 0,50 Euro). Essen Rüttenscheid/Steele is the closest to Messe Essen.

Hope it helps. Happy to get more information for you if you want and if you know if it's really happening.

Excellent, thanks Frank.

I've just checked the Campervan running costs and it looks a little better than i thought; The average MPG is 25-30, so my initial 2 estimates of 20 MPG and 25 MPG are on the safe side.

I've just been to inspect the camper van, she's a beaut.

Is anyone tempted to join our band of rebels and wouldn't mind knowing more? So far it's just me and Grant confirmed.

I got your PM mate, i'm gutted you can't commit now, but totally understand Chris.
