Celebration Europe 2 - Essen

I'm going to hold fire for a little while longer - some more confirmed guests would make me feel a little better about spending some serious cash on a weekend ticket & booking a trip overseas!

I have never been to any previous Celebrations before. What can I expect? Currently I think I'll pay a lot of money to get in, just to pay more money for Autographs & exclusives (I hope for a Gentle Giant Vintage Jumbo Exclusive) and such... Don't think I'll want to attend any interview sessions and stuff...

Damn good question Dennis. I'm in exactly the same position having never attended one before.

Spooked hippie there are a few of us at hotel franz

The con itself (although I haven't been to one but have seen pics/read a lot about the last 3) isn't going to be stalls and stalls of Vintage unfortunately, it will be a lot of modern, there will be a lot of people dressed up as star wars characters, loads of people queuing for autographs and there will be panels/talks/novelty shows etc (I think they even had a priest at the last one marrying people off or some kind of Cilla black dating game lol)

The way to get the most out of the convention is if you make plans together on where you will stay so you can hang out and buy and sell with each other. Another important tip is finding a common location where you will be bringing stuff to sell (usually at the hotels etc) so you guys have somewhere to meet up each day and where to go to after the days events to have a natter.

If you are interested in attending collector panels and talks and things like that you will no doubt get a schedule so you can plan things a bit better. Chris G uploaded on on the archive a while ago for the last Celebration event.

Shawn K could probably expand on this and give you guys some tips on how to make it a great trip as he has been to the last few celebrations in the states!

I was at the first Celebration Europe at the Excel Centre. I was one of the sponsors of Dave Trees Palitoy Archive so spent most of my free time in there when I wasn't attending the collectors panels. The collectors panels stretched out over both days and I was at all of them. They were all entertaining, even for ones on subjects I didn't have much interest in. The Palitoy Atchive and collectors panels were both upstairs off the main floor so didn't spend an awful lot of time there. There was the big jabba set with a bunch of slave leais, a separate gallery of decorated vaders helmets and a large number of vintage and modern stalls from what I remember. There were big queues for Hammil who doesn't sign that often. AFA were there for dropping off stuff to get graded (they sent it back via the post).

Here are the pics I took over the weekend:-

Close enough. Most hotels near the place are sold out or very expensive. Think it's only about 4km from the messe.

I was at Celebration Europe in 2007. Lots of stalls but only a scattering of vintage, mostly modern. Didnt manage to see all the talks and presentations but the one's I did see where good and informative. Got one autograph but the queue's were too long and expensive.

I cant believe I was drooling at all that palitoy in the Palitoy Archive and didnt realise that there were a few guys from here involved in it. Dave Tree, Gary Smith, Jason. Had only just joined the forum then so was very new to everything.

Here you go guys!
