Carded Bossk Advice

Hello again folks, i pulled out this carded ESB figure in the hope you guys could have a look.

Sold to me factory sealed i noticed just recently there seems to be what looks like paint rub to the white chest area. Is it normal for a a factory sealed figure to have paint rub :?

Any advice would be most welcome, cheers

The bottom left bubble has lifted very slightly but not enough to remove or insert figure.......

looks like some shoulder damage on the black strap bit on left shoulder too

you do get paint rubs/marks on some figs ,does that part of fig hit the bubble when its moved about

You often find sealed figs with badly applied paint or what look like rubs. Its unusual to find perfect figures although they get better the later you go. The ROTJ figs are often better painted than the SW carded ones.

It's a myth that C10 figures exist. At this time painting methods were primitive, so most of the marks/rubs/imperfections you see on "worn loose" figures were probably there to start with, even when it was carded. Having owned every figure MOC at one point or another, I don't ever think I'd claim one of them was "mint" apart from perhaps a figure like 8D8 or 3PO that don't suffer such rubs etc.

Edd is correct. Just because a figure has never been removed from the card does not make it dead mint. Either thru poor paint ops or just wear and tear inside the bubble, I would never call a figure C-10. I think you are ok.

that slave-1 looks good with dark coloured wings/flaps

Most of the photography on carded figures was produced using samples, prototypes etc as the figures/ships were not always ready yet.

You can also see Luke Jedi on a 65 back with a black cloak, and on (77?) backs you can see Lando in Skiff guard disguise with completely cream/white legs and that was a prototype piece I believe.

Out of interest Gustie do you own any vintage MOC?
I only know you for loose/variants!

Ok well from my photos I got some images of figures on the card backs that are significantly different from the final product:

Jedi figures from 65 and 77bk cards.
Black caped Luke and Squidhead, red caped Bib Fortuna and unpainted,solid coloured legs of Lando!
I am sure there are loads more of these differences on playsets and vehicles etc but I can't remember and memorable ones.

theres a painted han hoth and rebel soldier with striped boots too

as for MOC - i own none! loose variants keep me going for now, im not big on packaging so an extra £100+ on some figures would be a choker for me

3 grand for a Tri madine for example!! thats way sick!

It can be a natural progression sometimes, you start with cheap loose, eventually make a complete set then upgrade etc, I kind of did this and more when I started.

I like to see the work you variant collectors do and the fruits of your labour is very good to drop in on from time to time but I have only ever been interested in one of each figure, I think in my loose set at home in England the only variants I have are the really obvious ones (lando smile no smile etc) and I was never that pleased about getting doubles of a figure for a minor difference!
Although at the time it was considered a full set if it included those major variations.

However I imagine buying up small and cheap lots and going through and noting COO's etc is something you find interesting? I have always wondered your motivation for starting to collect variations, is it simply the availablity and cost factor or the hunt , or a combination of both?

I actually started writing this post just to say you should buy a MOC lol.

well i was only gunna finish the main run, then i joined here

then i read about variants and thought it might be good to have
only the hardest to find variant of each figure...

i think back then when i was learning i pissed
craig off with 2 many questions! lol


i tried to stick to my guns but then found myself
keeping the different variants

i had a few repros from the early nineties and got rid of those and needed
a few upgrades of some sub par figures.

i think for me the progression to MOC might only ignite if i won the lottery!
the amount you guys spend on one figure blows me away! it must have some satisfaction of course but for now what i collect keeps me happy

It can be, good thing there are many different ways to collect MOC!
I must admit I have never over payed for MOC and as such sometimes I lose out, but the chances are they will come round again.

I couldn't ever put together a Palitoy MOC SW run like some of the guys here for money reasons and personally it doesn't attract me although I can really appreciate the work gone into it and the outcome!

The only way I would go after the first 12 etc would probably be on beaters or with missing POPS which is something I considered a long time ago but my heart wasn't in it at all.

I only ever knew Star wars from Jedi as I was born in the early eighties so my first hand me down figures were ewoks and skiff guards etc .

I like to find out why and how people collect

I think my favourite prototype in advertising material is the Luke Jedi that looks similar to Anakin with moulded robes, think it was on a German poster?

Thanks for pointing out the Lando with white legs, never noticed that before! It's great that things slip your attention even to this day.
