Cancelling ebay auctions

I've noticed that occasionally sellers end their auctions early, even though a number of bids have been made. I can't put links to them as unfortunately I deleted them from my watched auctions, but there were a couple of loose AFA 90 DT sabre figures on auction this week, with bids in the hundreds of pounds. Two auctions were ended early I think because there was an error in the listing or reserve (even though there was no reserve). I've also noticed similar things happen in recent months - a couple of weeks agao to an AFA 90 Boba Fett that had multiple bids.

Maybe I'm just being cynical that sellers could cancel auctions that don't seem to be heading to a final price that they had hoped for - but how can ebay allow this? I would be tempted to list some high value stuff for auction if I thought I could just end it early if I chose to... How do sellers do this and get approval from ebay for doing it?!

I was watching those DT auctions as well just to see what they went for. :x

Any seller can end an auction early up until the last 24 hours (I think). It is annoying for any buyers watching who like to bid in the last few seconds but it's up to the seller. Personally I would guess someone has made him an offer outside of ebay so he avoids sellers fees and the buyer avoids the risk of being out bid in the last seconds but we'll see if they get relisted in the future !!

In the past if a "rare" item came up for sale that I really wanted I would always try and tempt the seller with a private deal because I always knew that if I didn't another collector would !!

Thanks Craig. I didn't realise sellers could end auctions early if they had bids on them. Oh well. Not to worry, they were well out of my budget, but I too was curious as to their final value.
