Hi Everyone

I hope you may be able to help.

I am a final year Graphic Arts/Photography student at Winchester School of Art (Southampton University).

I am about to start my final major project which is about collections/memorabilia!
I wondered if it would be at all possible to photograph anyone's collection?

I am happy to travel (within reason!) and would also be more than happy to email/send you copies of the photographs when I have finished. I am currently based around both Hampshire and Berkshire (England)

Hi Lara, I have heard of winchester school of art and I understand it has a good reputation. I myself am a photography and fine art teacher.

In my honest opinion, I would say that you may not get a huge uptake on your request to take photos of peoples collections. Mainly because some peoples collections are worth a fairly considerable amount of money and obviously we don't know who you are.

Having said that, I would be happy to maybe take photos of my own collection and forward them to you and I'm sure one or two others woulnt mind this either.

Just an idea.

Thank you for your reply I completely understand and appreciate that most people will be reluctant to let me photograph collections and believe I may have to find people through people who know me etc.
I would really grateful however if you wouldn't mind sending me some photos of your personal collection, this would be great research for my project!

As Chris says not too many people will be keen to let you (as a complete stranger) turn up and photograph their collections, for the obvious reasons. Also, quite a few of us live outside England so that probably rules us out.
However, there is a limelight section on the forum where various members, myself included, have posted pictures of what they have. I doubt too many will object if you copy the pictures from there and use them, assuming they are any good to you.
