C10 does not exist

C-10 is a total myth so as said its pointless chasing a phantom :!:

I think collectors who just focus on top condition and nothing else will do have somewhat missed the whole point! Now I don't want to sound hypocritical because apart from my original childhood collection and a v small handful of pieces I picked up in the mid 90s everything in my collection today is mint factory sealed or unused. I do try to collect the best I can find but won't dismiss a piece because it isn't perfect :!:

These pieces we collect r little pieces of history and shouldn't b dismissed just because of imperfections. One should see the piece itself and not just the condition

The afa graded two vintage carded figures 100 - a Takara C-3PO and Kenner 12-Back Tusken Raider - and apparently these are completely perfect in every way.

Would be interesting to see an AFA 100. I've never seen one. Seen a couple of 95s i think.

This post sums the C scale thing up for me

"Hi,

I am basically interested in ANY of the figures you are offering (expect for double, Madine, Jawa, etc.) unless they are striclty C-9+
Unfortunately your pictures are relatively small and dont blow up when i click on them so would you please take a minute to double check the figures and send me a list of any mint C-9+ figure you have avaiable and your total asking price including shipping to Germany.
PLEASE exclude any figure with any damage to the capes, or obvious paint chips, loose limbs etc. I know there is hardly any dead mint figure around but I would rather step back and not buy a figure instead of receiving a C-8,5/9 figure. For example- judging from the pictures provided but I can see for example that the DSC has wear at the belt buckle which would not be my cup of tea, same goes for blak besping Guard... I would be happy to get a list of the ones that are really mint from your perspectives, if there are doubles like Madine or Jawas, i would only go for the nicer one. Both Landos would be interesting if mint.

Thank you,"

Poor old Vader has been out in the snow. All that money sunk into the AFAs numbers slowly disappearing.

Avoid Facebook, avoid the Dickheads. 8)

I dunno - been (re)collecting for just a few years. It has been irritating to get a 'mint' 'c9' or 'c10' figure that has a flaw such as a wobbly head LFB - had a dispute on this where I had paid a premium price for condition. Seller told me virtually all LFB's were like that - told him none of mine were and sent it back.

These afa style grades are subjective and in an environment like eBay seems to be overstated as people clammer to sell stuff. Problem then is if you start grading things to sell with what you honestly think would be the aprox afa/ukg grade you may not sell as well as you are understating your item compared to other listings.

Seeing items listed as C10 that are like a C8 if graded can be irritating as can someone getting out a microscope and pointing out a tiny flaw on your mint figure.

I worked at Coca Cola years ago - guess every Coke bottle is different lol. The labels move around a bit and get glued in a slightly different place, torques different on the cap, date codes printed differently depending how they go past the printer, some come off the line or get jammed and end up in bins and get reworked etc etc - even carbonation levels fluctuate and that's in a modern state of the art factory - late 70's Hong Kong will have been v different. So yea I guess C10 is a bit of a fallacy.

For me mint is an 'off the card' fresh unplayed with figure or at least virtually not damaged since production with no immediately obvious factory error.

That's what I think anyways guys.

Many on here have had far more experience on which to form an opinion but thought I'd share my thoughts so far as its an issue I've thought about a bit since taking up the hobby. Thnx :)

Ye can see that lol. With reference to my previous post I feel I am entitled to a C10 Coke bottle if someone can get me one pls. 2ltr Wakefield date code preferred

I think we are all picky when it comes to loose figures but I agree that there is no such thing as a C10 loose figure (or a C10 anything else for that matter).

Anyone that has ever put a loose set together has no doubt upgraded and gone through countless figures looking for "display grade" but there are some people that take it way too far for my liking (and I thought I was picky).

Sadly, the search for C10 "mint" is the reason why thousands of bagged + carded figures have been destroyed over the years and ironically, many of the figures people taken out of 30 year old packaging are probably as far from mint as you can get..

I think that is the big difference - and the point I was trying to make Joe - display grade is not C10 - C10 is where someone goes over the figure with a magnifying glass and 9 time out of 10 finds something that is either factory or age defect rather than playwear or paint loss

I am glad that this thread turned out into the discussion it did - I wasn't really having a dig at anyone in particular - its just that sometimes I get a bit frustrated with this desire for perfect figures that just aren't really out there

WTF!? Even if I had a figure so mint that AFA/UKG would have to come up with a new level of grade of 105% because anything else would be an insult to it - and this guy was the only person in the world that wanted to buy it from me - would I then sell it to this guy, would I ****! Purely for being guilty of being a massive twat!

I think most people agree that the C grade system in bollox, you only have to look at the sellers on ebay which still use this scale.

As for the Han Solo figure, if I'm honest I would not buy it as the mark is in visible place. If it was hidden on his back it wouldn't bother me but each to there own, we all have our own collecting goals.

My suggestions for all sellers would be...

1) Try to be honest with your descriptions
2) Show any damage (playwear of factory marks) in your photos.
3) Post large photos in your FS threads
4) Steer clear of group photos which reduces the visible size of each figure

If the above tasks are too much work, list your items in smaller batches. After all aren't we collectors not dealers on here??
