Good evening chaps,

My 12 year old lad is looking for his first gaming PC. We are going to budget between £200-£300 which I know isnt a lot but we wanted to get him something on a budget. I've seen some on Ebay and Amazon for that price but all I want to know is what do I need to look for?

Thanks!

Lee

It's been a long time since I looked at gaming pc specs but one general piece of advice would be to make sure it has a solid state drive and not a hard drive

Yes agree with lejackal, that one you posted a photo of will almost certainly have an old fashioned mechanical HD as a 2TB SSD is quite expensive. For gaming you really need three main things - 16+ GB RAM, a decent video card, and a recent processor - ignore the i3/i5/i7 etc, what you need to know is what generation it is. The current is 10th so don't buy anything older than 7th

you are really going to struggle with the budget, but for a first PC that is gaming focused then you need to sit and think what sort of games he/you intend to play on it. Have a look at pc specialist at some of their pre built pcs, little bit more but would certainly be a much better option than the one you are looking it. Don't be to hung up on ssd, they are fantastic but carry a price thats rather high at times. A mechanical drive would be more than sufficient for a 12 year old getting into gaming, have a look at AMD Ryzen products as well as they do offer some better (in my opinion) products that have a ton of value to them for what they cost.

Like I said, pc building no matter how good you make the machine it will be outdated within months with the various games that come out. Most importantly, dont rush into anything and please do look around and do some research into what is on the market. Have a sit and think what you want to play, and build/buy something that is sufficient and suitable.
