On my regular trawl I discovered this erm...Well I think thing can be the only description… For more than the price of a mint Vader I could own… A rare Darth monkey face something or other
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-Darth-Vintage-Mexican-Star-Wars-POTA-Vader-BOOTLEG-MEXICO-/260980576565?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc3a79135
Do people pay good money for this type of tosh and if so why? Am I missing the whole bootleg point am I just a Booty philistine? PS can anyone work out what the heck is going off on the weapon spur? That first one looks like one of those monkey paw helping hand things for the disabled :)

Some people love bootlegs and trems ect, i personally hate them, they are simply fakes from poorer countries, some think the history is interesting...

Exactly mate. Must say that they do nothing for me either!

Glad to hear its not just me who doesnt get these . I have real issue with when they were created and how easily they could be made today by anyone out to make a few $'s, how do you tell a good bad fake from a bad bad fake :D

Couldn't agree more TFB, this guy alone has two vaders with the same body and cloak but two different monkey heads, maybe the Mexican vader was a wheelchair bound chimp ;)

Gotta say I hate the bloody things as well but each to his own, some collect carded some proofs some loose etc etc, some morons even collect them in silly little baggies  so there are bound to be those that love bootlegs, joseph Y & Chris_J instantly spring to mind, it would be a very boring world if all of us only ate porridge, so just think of it that way & it may make more sense :D

There is no denying that that there Vader is one ugly brute  a face only a mother could love for sure

Well, my POV is it's more like: A face even a mother couldn't love.

But I assume this ugliness is what attracts some people. I don't like the bootlegs either. But yes, each to his own. :)

I like them. Main reason is variety of moulds and materials used, in addition to paint colour. It's a somewhat unexplored world in that you never know what's going to turn up next whereas licensed figures have been pretty much accounted for. Also the appreciation of their history, that 3rd world countries often didn't have the real thing, which led to a need to create some for kids who were growing up there.

I agree with concern on fakes but there are some general guidelines for each bootleg line.

Loads of good information here :-

I'm currently focusing on Polish 1st generation figures (3 away from set) and Model Trems (5 away from full set.)
