Blue sceen of Death - IT help needed

Hi guys.

Recently my HP PC has been suffering with the blue screen of death. Its happended a few times before but usually I give it a good clean and all seems ok. This time however its not. It blue screened 3 times in a row before it has even logged onto Windows, then wouldnt start at all. Well, the power was on but nothing happened. Got it working now but it will no doubt happen again. Its prob blue screened 8 times in the last week.

Does this mean my puter is on its way out??? Is there anything I can do??

Ive been looking at getting a laptop for a while now to save space in the house so if it really is f*&cked then a new laptop it is.

Any IT help from IT peeps on here would be much appreciated.

If you can't get around this problem I would just install a new operating system. Depending on the age of your system go for XP or Windows 7 (just stick the disc in and follow the instructions including a format), might not be the cheapest solution but it should do the job and its no nonsense.

Hopefully though Plantman will come to your rescue.

Mine died on me last week, just wouldnt load from windows and after a few attempts it would open up one section like every ten minutes, then wouldnt recognize my registry or load internet, finally managed to delete all i could like outlook express but still got to try to get back to chrome to erase password history before I chuck it.

I got myself a reconditioned del laptop and its not too bad.

A few quick things:
Make sure the CPU fan is spinning. Overheating is a big cause of the BSOD.
Try using the RAM modules one at a time. Bad Ram is another big cause of the BSOD.
Do an operating system repair by booting from the OS DVD.

Thanks for this info, saved me from a panic attack the other night!!!

BSOD, reboot BSOD with hardware warning, then reboot BSOD with same hardware warning. Remembered your post, took appropriate cooling action and hey presto... safe mode followed by normal boot up.

It would have booted ok in the morning (probably) but you saved me a sleepless night of panic
