As I'm sure most of you know Blade Runner now has a sequel to be released this year.
What you may not know is I've never seen it, I know it's a travesty, particularly as I've had the metal tin set with four or five cuts of the film for at least five years now
I'm after some advice over which version I should watch as I'll pretty much only get time to watch one before seeing the sequel.

Thanks

Carl

I saw this thread thinking it's going to be about how good the film is.

I'm happy as I haven't seen it.

I've got the two-disc special edition.
It has the Final Cut on it.
I'd say that one to start with then compare with the others, if given time.

I've seen a couple of different versions years ago, but without reading up on them I couldn't describe or remember the differences, to which they are varied.

I would agree with the above that the final cut is probably the best version to go with as they cleaned up a few shots without taking anything away (SW special edition  ). There are a couple of new backgrounds in it and I believe it maybe a little shorter than the theatrical version but makes for a better watch.

The theatrical version is the one with a voice over and it's the version I knew the best for a long time as it's the one they showed on TV but I find it makes Harrison Fords character Rick Deckard come across a little unsympathetic and although Deckard doesn't say a whole lot in the movie I find it gives more of a sense of how the character feels without the voice over that often spells everything out a bit to much for me.

I love the film although it may have a slightly different tempo than what you might expect.

Enjoy! :D

an awesome piece of science fiction and piece and art. after you watch it watch the hour and half making of documentary.

All versions are good Carl, but as a slightly different take I'd start with the theatrical release.

Directors cuts are great but work best when after seeing theatrical releases IMO.

I'm just working my way through the Alien box set after not havinrg seen them for years. Theatrical followed by directors cuts is the way I'm doing it

George Lucas has scarred directors cuts for me for a very long time

I've not seen that yet Chris - one for tonight!

on resurrection. the more i watch it the more i like it. it had loads or rewrites you know director changes.was totally different from the original concept. but its a grower.

I was never a big fan of 3 but always like resurrection. A very underrated series of films

Totally agree with this, watch original release first, although directors cut is still amazing. One of my favourite ever films, enjoy

I've never seen a cut with the voiceover but have seen the making of - Dangerous Days. In it you see plenty of clips with Deckard's voiceover. Have to say it's pretty strange. I'm not in a rush to watch that version :?

Personally I would say go with the non voiceover. I think that's the directors cut. Definitely see the making of. I actually like watching that more than the film!

What you should expect to see is an incredibly beautiful science fiction art film far ahead of it's time. It's not like anything else

I was never a massive fan of either of them. Alien was superb and Aliens was great for the child in you that likes to see lots of blood and guts. Quite different films, the first a suspense filled horror, which was quite slow in places but had you on the edge of your seat or behind the sofa. The second was basically a shoot 'em up.
Alien 3 was just a slow, plodding, meandering, bore-fest. Resurrection (or re-erection as my mate called it) was dreadful. An early example of Hollywood milking franchises for every single last penny, all whilst spending £3 on a script.

Prometheus was another disappointment. More a case of WTF, than bad. They had the whole backstory to play with and they came up with THAT. Was GL involved in its production!?

alien convenant looks like ridley scott has gone more down the original alien route with suspense and horror....hopefully

Yeah, it does look promising. But then so did Prometheus. I'm not getting my hopes up. I'll still go and watch it, but Hollywood has let me down too many times before. I hope it's a return to form, but i'm half expecting some franchise milking babble along the lines of Matrix Reloaded etc
