ok i read a **** load of books mostly true crime or autos by people from dodgy walks of life .but i want to read this just to see what its about .
anyone actualy read it (besides gaz)and will i find it interesting or **** it of after first verse /testament or what ever
 
I did RE or RS (depending on what you want to call it) GCSE, so I had to read sections of it.
Admitedly nowhere near all of it, and I've been an atheist since birth so I just found it all a load of rubbish. It reads a bit like a kids story book, 'be good, do this and do that, and you'll to heaven'............................BOLLOCKS! :roll:

Saying that I have nothing against people who believe, no matter what religion. As long as they don't try and convert me I'm happy to live and let live. I just find it all as convincing as Arsene Wenger saying he "didn't see" one of his players decapitating an opponent.
 
the problem i have with the whole religion thing is ..

1. why did the catholic church have a problem with the release of the divinci code, when all it was about was the posibility that jesus got married and had kids.... they try and convice the world that this guy died,came back to life, and did magical **** on a daily basis.... :?

2. muslims..........nutters, if there bombers or not there whole out look on life is just ****in wrong..

3. why the **** in this day and age do millions of people still belive the writings of things which we have to have 'FAITH' (could be true/ but might just be a load of dribble) , these are the same people that thought the world was flat and the moon was made of cheese, why cant people just accept its a old book...and thats just it......no more no less. yes 100's of people die every day because of arguments based on what some bloke may or may not have said thousands of years ago......really though !! :x

4. and while iam on a rant...... why the **** do churches have collection plates.... why cant they just get the money from those cunts who get driven around in bentleys, with more gold than MR t, and fiddle with little lads ...and call themselfs holy....... and they preach about giving to the poor !!!! wankers

I'm not religious in the slightest but find the whole thing quite interesting and have read all of the bible. It is a good read in places.

I also have no problem with any religion, so long as it respects other peoples rights and beliefs. I don't like anyone telling me there's something missing from my life or that I'll be meeting Satan some day just because I don't have any faith.

You don't need religion to be a good person and likewise faith doesn't automatically make people a model citizen (look at Cliff Richard - he's not right is he?) :wink:
 
if some people feel they need a 'guideline' to how they should live there lifes then thats a sad place to be , however if its going to make them a better person then fine, but i dont belive its been worth it due to the wars etc..

Jesus and Mohammed ARE THE SAME PERSON! :lol:

The person who the bible (and Christians) call Jesus is/was the same person who the Koran (and Muslims) call Mohammed.
The two religions are actually very similar, albeit Christians believe Jesus/Mohammed was the son of God, Muslims believe he was ONLY a messenger from God.

The Koran expressly forbids sucide, it's just those die hard 'fundamentalists' (drop the "funda" part) who have a warped understanding of it or, who are brainwashed, whatever you want to call it, who believe it is not only allowed but encouraged.

Take those nutters out of it and Islam is actually quite a sensible religion (as far as religions go), bar all those unusual sharia law things.

What odds would you have got on me of all people sticking up for Islam!? :shock: :lol:

Nor do the vast majority of Muslims, despite what the Dailly Mail would have you believe!

There are probably as many weirdo cults worldwide, as there are potential sucide bombers. I'm thinking of the 'Branch dividians' at Wako in America armed to the teeth locked in their own compounds with David Koresh sexually abusing young girls. Shoko Asahara and his Buddhist 'Aleph' sect Sarin nerve gassing the Tokyo subway. The 'Cult of the Solar temple' and their mass sucides so they could all jump on board a passing asteroid and go to the planet "Sirius". Etc etc
It's just the sucide bombers stay in the headlines for a lot longer.

any way is it worth a read or what .ask a simple question and all ****ing hell breaks loose ,yes or no would have ****ing done :wink:
 
One of my mates he likes reading books. I remember him telling me a few month ago he was going to start reading bible. Must ask him how he got on

Well, no, they are not.

Jesus was from the 1st century Palestine

Muhammad is from 6/7th Century Arabia

They are two completely different people. The Qur'an actually talks about Jesus, son of Mary, the messiah to the Jews who performed miracles etc. You have to believe that to be a Muslim.

What they don't believe is that he was the son of God, who dies on a cross. For Muslims he was a prophet, but his message was corrupted by Christians so God sent his final prophet, Muhammad over 500 years later. So Muhammad and Jesus are two completely different people.

I’m no great lover of religion. I had a strict religious upbringing, I have a degree in Theology and Religious Studies, studied the Torah in its original Hebrew and the Qur'an in its original Arabic. Heck, I teach Religion at GCSE and A level. I find it fascinating to read, but I still can't stand it.

I'll respect someone's right to believe what they want, as long as they don't try to impose it on others or mistreat others as a result of believing something different. Sadly that is not the case, never has been, and never will be.

I've read the Bible. It's mostly interesting, but there's a couple of books of the old testatment that will send you to sleep.
