Me being stupid, just bought something from the US, asked to declared it at US$30 but forgot to mention mark as gift, ended up with £12 VAT and £14 service charge from Parcel Force. Just thought to remind everyone the allowance:

£15.01 to £135 - no duties and only VAT
£135.01 and above - payable duties (waived is less than £9) and VAT
As gifts
Less than £36 - no duties and no VAT
£36.01 to £135 - no duties and only VAT
£135.01 and above - payable duties (waived is less than £9) and VAT
