What would you guys suggest as top 3 books to aid in vintage SW collecting ??

or better still, is there a bible to worship at ??

A No brainer mate - John Kelleman Vintage Star Wars Action Figures A Guide for collectors. Dont go mad for it tho because a second editon is due out this year

I found this one pretty useful when I was starting out

The Sansweet one is definitely worth getting.

I knew nothing about what was available until I got that back in 94!!

Like the other guys have said the best book for loose collecting is the Sansweet one. Kellerman is a great book for carded collecting, but wait for the 2nd addition as he had a ton of updates for it.

There are also sites like Landos Locker Room that are pretty comprehensive. That covers all the variations minor and major.

IMO
1. Kellerman
2. Sansweet action figure archive ( just remember there are some mistakes in it- wrong weapons)
3. Gus & Dunc's COMPREHENSIVE book

the list will depend on your definition of "vintage star wars collecting"

& as Dom said use the free info on line first :)

Picked up a copy of sansweets book yesterday and it's very useful, some great pictures and facts. Have the new kellerman book on my wish list hopefully not to long to wait, stuck name down on mailing list :D

Is the kellerman 2nd edition available for pre order yet?

Based on recent history I would NEVER pre-order a collecting book! In fact forget recent history, one of them is about 5 years overdue now

For loose collecting this is a nice start- its cheap too- £5 on ebay:

I also like Tomarts and this is a nice read:

For MOC collecting though Kellerman is an excellent resource.

However for all of the above, dont take any notice of the price guides

I know...think of the money he has put in his bank account....he is drawing all that great intrest of everyones investment in a book that you do not even know if it will ever exist.....hjell he may have even invested the funds in the market.

I've not got too many books to be honest, I kind of learnt as I went, most of the basic stuff is all out there on the net (and was way back when) so with a little digging you can read it all for free :)

However Gus & Duncans guide to prototypes is a nice (big) book if that is something that interests you.

You can also look around for old issues of action figure digest/Tomarts that usually have pretty cool articles on Star Wars in them :)

that is the best book in my opinion, its a fun read and visual treat.

maybe the saga museum one will be awesome when it comes out but judging by the size of it, it may well turn out to be the biggest book ever so postage will suck.

I am also still living in hopes of that one coming out, the one with the lifetime waiting list  :?

I have the kellerman book & think its a great guide, also have the The Action Figure Archive but don't rate it in the same league as the kellerman, though it is a great one to start with.

All great books that have been mentioned.

I feel this one has become a bit underrated, but still think every collector should own a copy.

Star Wars: From Concept to Screen to Collectible

It was one of the first collecting books I picked up, has a ton of great quotes from several Kenner employees and documents what happened behind the scenes once Kenner got the Star Wars license and why certain decisions were made. It's even cheap used too. :)
