So what would you say were the best albums ever produced? Simple!

For me it's probably Dark Side, which is a pretty obvious choice. But maybe Abbey Road. And then one I can listen to over and over - Queensryche, Operation Mindcrime. It's just a perfect concept album. Each track flowing perfectly into the next, telling quite a disturbing tale.

What are yours?

Is it my favourite albums of all time or what I consider are the best albums ever produced of all time?

If it's the latter it'd be:

1. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
2. The Who - Who's Next
3. Blondie - Parallel Lines
4. The Clash - London Calling

My favourite albums would be from my teens though like Smashing Pumpkings - Gish; Ned's Atomic Dustbin - Are you Normal? and later Bloc Party - Silent Alarm.

Michael Jackson - Thriller. Sorry! Although I prefer Off The Wall and Bad.

Promise not to comment in on this thread again.

Gish? You're an album too early to that party. Siamese Dream is head and shoulders above any album ever made. Pure quality from start to finish. Not a single song on it that is anything less than Brilliant.
There are plenty of good/great albums out there but pretty much every single one has a song or two (or three), that is much weaker than the rest. You know the type you hit skip for when they come on. Siamese Dream doesn't.
What makes it so depressing is when you listen to what Billy Corgan and the Pumpkins are churning out now, or even anything in the last 10-15 years. It's pure shite.

I've got both and while they're both excellent Gish is the one I revisit time and time again. Apart from the obvious ones Crush, Suffer and Snail (the slower ones) are beautiful. We even had Crush playing whilst we were signing our wedding vows.

The Black Album would make it in to my top 10 favs. I know that doesn't sit favourably with most die-hard Metallica fans but that's the one that got me into Metallica, and was the one they were promoting when I saw them at Milton Keynes Bowl in 93 with Megadeath, The Almighty and Diamond Head. Awesome gig means that album will always have a special place in my heart. :D

I can't even begin to consider this question.. it's too much of a head ****! It's like the favourite movies thread. Best albums produced and favourites are two different things. I think best albums ever produced have to be about originality and groundbreaking production as well as the songs themselves. For that reason I have to mention The Beatles - Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland and Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon. There's a ton of others, the list could be long 8)

I don't know. Personally the album question is easier than the best film one. Picking a favourite album, or what I think is an absolute classic, even on behalf of other people, is relatively simple. Films are a nightmare to choose from.

There are loads out there that are packed with great tracks. However, finding an album with absolutely no filler, that's the trick.

If anyone says 'the Beatles Blue album' or 'the Beatles Red album'! :x

Cool it was always Puppets and the Justice albums for me. They were in Dublin and Belfast and I managed to get to both venues myself. They were 2 amazing nights. Hetfield threw a plectrum into the snakepit and by pure luck it fell near me. After a drunken wrestling match I managed to grasp it off the floor. I have great memories from that night it was mad :D

A pretty random five from me that cover some of my tastes/appreciation

Sign 'O the Times - Prince
Hatful of Hollow - The Smiths
Hypnotize - System of a Down
Sail Out - Jhene Aiko
Please - The Pet Shop Boys

Plenty of great albums but these few would probably be what I listen to most

1. Guns n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
2. Pearl Jam - Ten
3. Red Hot Chilli Peppers - By The Way
4. Def Leppard - Hysteria
5. U2 - The Joshua Tree
