Been charged £2.80 for a small 2nd class letter not even recorded delivery. Also really late to arrive she only e-mailed me after I asked her if it had been posted. Have contacted her for a refund so far nothing have sent another e-mail if no response neutral feedback.

How thick was the package? If it doesn't fit through a window 25cm wide then that would be the postage price for 2nd class standard. If it was a thin package then seems like the postage cost was OTT.

It would have fit through the small window. The stamp wasn't even large letter stamp was small letter stamp the postage on ebay was 2.80 but in the past people have refunded the difference.

Sounds like a bit of a raw deal then mate. It is always frustrating when sellers refuse to communicate with you as well.

I personally would always refund if the postage is less than I have listed (sometimes you don't know the exact size / weight until you package it up) but it is not obligatory and as a buyer you essentially agree to the shipping cost when you buy.

Did they state what the postage method would be? If they said first class signed-for and sent 2nd class standard then I guess you might have something to take to eBay. At the end of the day though, probably not worth the hassle for a couple of quid. :|

If it fit through the small window then it's wrong to charge that much, it should cost the actual cost of postage, plus whatever the packaging cost and the amount that the seller loses through ebay and paypal fees.

Have left bad feedback as still no communication also was described as slight wear and tear don't call a rip down one of the crease slight wear are tear.

Cost - if it said £2.80 in the listing for 2nd class postage and you got exactly that then you can't complain after the event. You got what the listing said, for the cost the listing said. If you thought it was expensive then you shouldn't have bought it, and nor should you expect a refund.

P&P quality/communications - if you don't feel like it was well packaged or the comms were crap you've got every right to complain about that so fire away!

Its bad to get a bad service, we all hate it, just complain about the right thing!

Quite agree. I hate being overcharged too and non-comms drives me nuts, but you bid without agreeing something else first then you agree to their terms. Look at it this way; if something was worth £10 to you and you have £2.80 to pay on postage, you bid £7.20. If the same item shows 53p postage then you bid £9.47, either way, you're prepared to pay up to £10 and you can argue those you bid against worked it out the same way (sorry, really badly explained).

Same argument when folk complain about buyers commission at auctions. I hate it too but everyone takes it into account when they bid. In actual fact, the person that ends up losing out is the seller! Item is worth £100, it sells for £80 (because you've taken into account your £20 commission) and the seller received £72 because they then have to pay their seller fees! You still have the item you wanted for the price you wanted and the seller has 28% less than the item's worth. The point is, fees are known before the end of the sale; whether eBay or auction house. I don't blame you for trying to get a partial refund (shame on the seller for taking the piss) but if you don't get one then you don't really have too much to complain about. Other than the crap description, crap condition and the crap comms! ;)

I got charged £7 for a figure to be sent to me once, but I saw the price before bidding, I think the figure sold for less than the true value because of the postage. Bit annoyed that it stated royal mail special delivery and came via my hermes at a postage cost of £2.78 though!

Seller sounds like they got a bit of a raw deal having received bad feedback on this. They stated in the auction postage would cost £2.80 right? So everyone knew the cost of delivery before bidding, then its up to the bidders to decide their top bid.

The seller then posted the item as a large letter and not a small parcel, so here's the rough breakdown of their actual costs...

2nd class Large letter stamp = £0.74
Padded jiffy envelope = £0.69
Packing tape, figure bag, etc = £0.10
Paypals 5% charge on P&P = £0.14
Total = £1.67

So all in all the seller perhaps overcharged by £1 (that's assuming there was no petrol/time costs to make a special trip to the post office), which some sellers will refund, some others won't, but as a buyer I wouldn't expect to get overcharged postage refunded, because I knew the cost before bidding. If the seller decides to refund the postage, then they obviously deserve exceptional feedback, but IMO no-one deserves to receive negative feedback for a slight overcharge in postage.

I would also say that anytime a figure is described as having any kind of 'wear and tear', then do not expect to receive anything less than an item that is well and truly used.

Slow or no communication from sellers is a valid gripe though, because if they have taken the time to list items, then it is their obligation to ensure the buyer is satisfied. Waiting a couple of days to receive comms is fine, waiting weeks is not!

I agree its rubbish to be overcharged postage but you know the cost before hand, however they should be using the service you have actually paid for.

I think it is more annoying to pay £3.30 for 1st class small parcel then they send the item in a padded envelope..

When it cost just the same and the item then arrives damaged
