Be careful with your fridge magnets Mr Bighair!

Jesus christ. Just when you thought RS couldn't get any ****ing dumber.

To be fair Pete, the OP of that thread is actually a really nice guy, read his first post again - he just found it a little odd to see a fridge magnet of something he owns on ebay I suppose.

To be honest if I had my photos used without permission for someone else's monetary gain I would be a little pissed off.

Yeah I think most people would, myself included. I think it's nice if people at least try to ask for permission to use other peoples pictures, monetary gain or not it's just manners after all and I think 90% of people wouldn't care as long as they were asked.

I've had people use my images for ebay auctions and even content from my site stolen for use in some kind of online resource (that was rumoured to be a new "book" for collectors) and I was never approached about either which sucked donkey balls. In fact the guy had stolen so much stuff off the net without credit or permission he got shut down in the end.. so yeah it pays to ask!

Yeah, there is sadly a lot of repro defenders on there these days..times change I guess. I was quite taken back by the email Darren received from one of the RS staff members

Now I see he is expressing that he will be making larger boxes like the AT-AT, once he learns the technology. I agree RS has changed....**** we are becoming the new RS as far as standards go.

Yeah, i read on though. Even tho i know i shouldn't. The magnets are a pictures of an moc. Who gives a toss who that moc currently belongs to.
There's a Facebook page using my Stormtroopers picture as it's banner. They didn't ask. They obviously just found it on google. I was half annoyed, half proud but i didn't say anything. Or start a thread on a forum. I was only half annoyed cos it's a unique picture of my actual collection. If i had a plain pic of one of my MOCs used why on earth would i care?? I could maybe see if it was a really pro picture that took time and skill to take but an iPhone snap of a MOC/figure whatever. Who cares?

I think he just started the thread because he was a bit freaked out, I mean his reflection is in the picture too lol

Evidence of OP finding it amusing: http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1113172/#post19457362

Evidence of OP accepting it's just a bit of fun and no harm done: http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1113172/#post19457772

Then he changed the thread title to from "Cheeky fellow" to "NOT a cheeky fellow.."

I'm not sure how upset he seems to you over this but to me he seems to be quite calm

You big emo

If you are talking generally though and can't understand why people can get upset about others using their pics then I think you have to look at things case by case.

Actually, this is a good example - the OP on RS had his figure put on a fridge magnet and at the end of the day he laughed it off. I had a guy use a picture of a figure in my collection in order to sell his one on ebay, he was basically pretending he owned it and it was the one he was selling. There was no way whoever won that figure would have ended up with the one pictured because I owned the bloody thing!

That's not cool for me or the buyer..I would imagine if someone used your ebay stock pictures to sell their stuff on ebay (or even worse, pictures of stuff that was actually IN your collection) you'd be annoyed too.

Same for when that bloke pinched a bunch of content from my site (and plenty of other sites too) including pictures. Personally, I got annoyed because it took me a lot of time to round all that stuff up, take my own pictures, ask others for their pictures, get it all edited, write the articles and then publish it all for the community..then some twat comes along and thinks "hey I can steal all this and make a book with it" - come on, that's not cool lol

I wouldn't care either if someone used my picture for their facebook groups cover photo, that's a compliment if anything and it says people dig your collection or picture taking skills. It's when people start using your pictures to sell stuff or pretend they own the item they are showing off, that's when picture theft becomes an issue.

Yeah, i wasn't really talking about him but the thread ini general. That what i meant by "but i read on". Comments like "My god!, People will stop at nothing!!" [paraphrasing] Seriously, Do me a favour.
I'm not condoning the use of other people photos. Not for any reason. I always think you should ask.
And i wasn't saying you shouldn't be annoyed if someone steals your photos but, and like you say; you take it case by sase, this example was just so petty and nothing to get excited about.

Comments like "My god!, People will stop at nothing!!"

and in the same breath....make statements like "Educate yourself"..."There is nothing we can do"...."Everybody else is doing it, so what makes this special"..............."Collect how you want". I am not keyboard warrior...If I could reach through the screen...I would love to strangle some of these people.

In the modern day if we put a picture on the WWW, then someone will find it and use it. I think there are 2 solutions:

1. Don't post anything online that you won't want anyone else to use, find or see.

2. Watermark all pictures before you post it (I know it can still be removed) but at least it acts a deterrent.

I think the courtesy would be for someone to ask but no one bothers when you can just cut and paste. Anyone followed the recent case about the monkey selfie? The photographer lost a case to say its his photo and shouldn't be use without permission but he posted it online because the monkey took the picture and monkey can't have the rights to the photo, it's on the internet anyone can use it.

Just my 2 cents.

Simon
