Hello all

I am sorry to have to write this post but feel under the circumstances I have no other option other than to make everyone aware of some IMO major misgivings about a seller being Dermot O'Tool (re Huge collection for sale posted by (caswelbot) on SWFUK & RS.

Please be aware that caswelbot has NOTHING to do with this deal & is a stand up seller of good standing IMO

I bought an item through ebay some time ago from this seller (bobba67 ), this being a 9 figure multi-pack -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300616594689?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_500wt_1288

Now I contacted the seller asking what if any other baggie items they may have & was sent several photos, photos you will most likely of seen here on the afore mentioned for sales thread, these were sent to me a long time before a thread was posted here or on any of the other SW forums, foolishly it was I who suggested that he may find the forums an easier place to buy/sell/trade SW items rather than facing the ebay fee's - a mistake I feel.

Now after seeing the photos & hoping to get further items from the collection I placed a very high bid on the 9 pack & managed to win it by the skin of my teeth, all good I thought, but when the multi-pack got to me it was not exactly Mint as it was described in the ebay listing, but not that bad, but 1 of the baggies was in a very poor condition with several splits in the baggie which was also well worn, I arranged with the seller to buy several other items from the collection along with other items for 2 other forum members as it would be easy enough for me already going over for my things.

I was after ALL of his multi-packs & a lot of baggies & not one but 3 of the Special Offer vehicles so you can imagine the price tag we are talking about, that coupled with the items I had to get for others came to a large amount, which I said I would bring with me & put directly in to his hands on a face to face basis as I felt I would A - like to see what I am getting / B - deal in person & make payment on the spot.

This involved a long wait for the full list of items then one with prices then photos of which only a few ever turned up, which on retrospect should have set alarm bells ringing, sadly I am rather old fashioned in the thinking that fellow collectors want to look after one another - yeah right! - I am so naive sometimes! :(

Going to pick the collection up entailed a 100mile drive each way & a ferry crossing to Ireland, so b4 I start I am £175 ish out of pocket, which I figure will be ok as I have been offered a 20% discount over all & this had already been discussed & agreed (which items & for how much).

I was asked to bring the damaged baggie from the 9 figure multi-pack with me as it would be exchanged for a better one, it was not as he said the other baggies had not surfaced as yet - gutted, but assumed all would be good as * when he finds them.

When I got to the sellers home I was rather horrified to discover that not one of his dozen +++ special offer items had the correct baggies with them, IMO rendering the items of a very low value & not what I was after, mega gutted as the Boxed special offer X-Wing with the small head SW-a baggied Han solo & Luke was the item I was after more than anything else :(

I thought I will still try to make the best of things & just try & get what I can, Hmmm!.

On checking the baggies out that were with 2 of the special offer vehicles I had to inform the seller that they were in fact A- the wrong baggie types & B- FAKES! (removable limb c3p0 baggies that have been re-sealed & heat sealed rather than tape sealed), the guy seemed genuinely taken back so I decided to check all the other items I was after in finite detail to make sure all was good with them, it was anything but good news, with 75% of the baggies being FAKES, which I found a little hard to believe considering the collection they were coming from, but still possible as not everyone is an expert with baggied figures.

Cutting this a little short, I only ended up with the red ESB 6 pack that I posted in the latest acquisitions thread a 3 figure rebel command pack & some loose baggies as EVERY other multi-pack contained a mixture of mostly fake or wrong baggies & some even had simply loose figures in them, a point I feel should have been STRESSED in communications before my trip over to buy them.

There were 2 other packs I had an interest in both being 2 figure multi-packs from the creature cantina, both sealed, I said I would like to authenticate them & soon as I had I would make payment for at least one (blue snag) & maybe even the other, so I requested photos so I can do so - nothing!

I also noted on my return that the ESB catalogue which should have come with the rebel command 3 pack was missing & another that should have come with the 6 pack was also missing, I had noted a bag full of catalogues in the collection room when there, so asked if he could forward this on to me - again - Nothing

So I tried to call him on both his land line & his mobile - ignored for 2 days, then he picks up the phone & says oh got to dash will call you back - I got an email saying sorry about putting the phone down but the other half phoned at the same time hence me putting the phone down on you & that he would call me later that day & to add insult to injury he also stated in that email that he had someone else interested in the two 2 packs & would rather they went together, well that was 3 days++ ago, I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt & let him have 48hours to come back to me, then after the 24hours had passed I figured I may be being a little hasty, so gave it a further 24 hours - still nothing, no emails no phone call no sorry no baggie no catalogue & no bloody special offer items either

I think you will all know me well enough to know that I give anyone I am dealing with plenty of opportunity to put things right should there be a problem & am 100% up-front & trustworthy when doing a transaction with.

I also feel it most imperative to point out that it is IMO not only the items I was looking at that there is a problem with, he has most of his items listed as in C8 or higher condition on his lists, but on being there in person & seeing the collection I would put a great many of his ships & play-sets closer to the C6 to C6.5 mark, being rather tatty & not worthy of grading IMO & E, I am not saying this or anything above to be malicious, but rather as to warn the community as to what's going on here & to urge anyone considering dealing with Dermot to ask lots of questions about the items authenticity & condition prior to making any purchase & to ask for multiple photos from various angles of both outer packaging & contents b4 making up your mind to go ahead with a deal, as I would feel partially to blame having not said anything should any other members get burned.

This is not a bashing thread, I am just stating what has transpired between us in this deal & ask you to make your own minds up as to whether you want to deal with this seller.

I'm very sorry that this has turned out this way, especially for Frank and Chris who helped and stood up for the guy only to have their trust betrayed.

Like I said on SWCC, this was always gonna be a messy one with a collection as big as this. I think from the start things were a tad disorganised and maybe some thought should've been put into it before the sale went live.

Frank, again sorry to hear your situation and thanks for the info.

That's a real shame Fran. Sorry it turned out that way for you. I must say that i contacted this guy as soon as the sale went up asking about his 4-Lom MOCs. I found his reply to me to be very strangely worded, confusing and vague so i stepped back and decided i wouldn't deal with him. As i've stated a few times before, the slightest issue and i back away. Live to fight another day. Then when he sent an email with pictures of everything i too thought he was over grading things by 2 or 3 "C"s so to speak. C8 was more like 6. I didn't look at everything so i just put it down to my fussiness.

Argh :(

Sorry to hear that Frank, what a shame. I wonder if dermot has bought sooo many pieces over the years has failed to check them all properly to see the correct bags are with the correct set? I can imagine you were and are very pissed off with the deal.

I must reiterate franks point that Chris is 100% stand up and I know he was only trying to help dermot out with the sale. I can imagine Chris is pretty frustrated with the whole lot- what with the flaming he received on rs (which I think was completely undeserved) and now dermot letting buyers down.

Even though there hasn't been a hint of negative comments aimed at Chris I feel this post is warranted:
I can categorically state that Chris is one of, if not the most, helpful, trustworthy and friendly guys I have met in the hobby. I have spent more cash than I care to recall with Chris and every deal has been flawless.

Good luck with getting it all sorted Frank 8) Hopefully he will sort you out mate.

Yup, agree with Ed about Chris. This has absolutely no reflection on Chris at all. Total stand-up guy for sure!

Hi guys, I feel I need to make a post here. I know this was not my sales thread but seeing as I helped Dermot get it set up intially I feel I owe a duty of care.

I am obviously quite shocked and saddened to hear that Frank has had a bad experience here. I can understand given the circumstances why he is upset and why he has decided to take the action he has. I know how frustrating it can be to feel like you have either been misled to have your time wasted.

Despite Franks post Dermot has had good transactions with other members including people on these boards and RS. That does not however excuse the shortcoming in rectifying the situation here with Frank. I like most, feel that we all make mistakes and things can go wrong. I know I have had deals that havent always gone to plan. The law of averages say that this is going to happen from time to time.

What happens from the point of something going wrong is crucial and as a seller I always think you should at least try to do everything within your power to work towards sorting the problem out. Unfortunately it would seem that Dermot has fallen short of the mark in this case. I hope that this is not an indication of Dermot and the way that he conducts his business from this point forward and is instead a blip which can be worked out.

I empathise Franks point of view that he feels sufficient time and opportunities have passed in order to sort this out which is why he has made this post. Frank has been very up front and honest with me about his feelings and I respect that.

I thank those of you who have spoken kindly about me in this thread. I do appreciate it. I would of course urge anyone that is conidering doing deals with Dermot to just be meticulous when you go through your dealings. Ask questions, ask for pictures and cross check. These kinds of issues can sometimes be avoided through prior checks. I am not saying that Dermot is dishonest or that Frank didnt do the proper checks. Im merely stating here that people owe it to themselves in any transaction whther here on on another board or on ebay to do all necessary checks on any purchase before going ahead. I believe there are still great items to be had in this collection and I hope that this can sort itself out although it is looking very unlikely at this stage.

A story which has made me sad for sure. Ive certainly had a lot of reflection time over this.

Chris.

Disappointed to hear this. I've met Dermott and he seemed like a decent enough bloke.

Although, probably only fair I mention, we had agreed a deal on a few other items and I'd left it that he would get in touch in a month or so when he had the cash (he'd just bought a few items from me for a couple of hundred quid). A month went by with nothing. I emailed him several times and still nothing. I sold the items elsewhere, and wasn't in a major rush to sell, so no harm done. But a simple "sorry" email or text would have been nice! Especially as I'd done him a favour and driven a 250 mile round trip to meet him the first time!

Sorry to hear all that Frank, you sound like a stand up bloke your self and you obviously deserved better for your effort.

Chris I don't think your reputation has been one bit sullied by any of this, in fact it appears to be yet another example of you trying to help out a fellow collector, looking a Dermot's collection I reckon most would have a hard time knowing where to start.

Not defending his actions towards Frank but maybe he's been a bit overawed by the task at hand and it's gotten a bit too much for him.

Might be time for Dermot to take stock, re-access the descriptions and start fresh.

This was my suggestion to Dermot when I was over at his, to get a few items as a time, do detailed photos from various angles & a small description of each item, I told him this would stop all of the comments he is getting, stop the 100's of emails & be so much easier on him as a seller, he could then do the whole collection the same in small manageable portions which IMO & E would have made life easier for everyone involved including himself.

I would like to reiterate that Chris (caswelbot) is in my opinion one of the nicest guys I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with & I do hope that none of my comments are thought to be aimed in ANY WAY toward him as they are not & I for one hold him in the highest regard as both a person & as a fellow collector, I can not recommend him highly enough!.

I have since had a further email from Dermot with the offer of the baggie in question & one of the calalouges, but not till at least February which I feel a bit ridiculous TBH & the simple fact that not even one of the Special offer vehicles had SW-a types baggies with them (if any baggies at all which most did not), I was VERY clear about the fact that I am primarily a baggie collector prior to my visit to him & was VERY clear about the fact that I wanted the baggies that the Special offer vehicles contained, so if he had told me in advance that they were not included (which with the price tag any collector would assume they were?) I would never have made the trip over in the first place & saved us both or should I say all 3 of us a lot of trouble.

I would also like to add that Dermot is some £3000++ better off for my visit (wish I could say the same) as I informed him about each & every item that was fake baggie wise & pointed him in the right direction to be able to identify them himself in future, & the 3k is down to owing the chap he bought the (fake) baggies off for them still, cash I presume he will now not be getting.

I am happy (& would love to be able to) change my opinions about Dermot & the deal we have done, but that ball is firmly in his court & I feel having to wait 2 months++ for a resolve is a little much to ask.

I am always willing to help where I can & am easy enough going, but feel that I have been mislead over this transaction.

Frank, Dermot's replied to your post on RS...

Yes I know thanks ham, I will get round to replying once I have put more thought in to the matter, as i would like to see this resolved in one way, but on the flip side I have had enough messing about & am not sure if just forgetting the whole thing is a wiser choice TBH.

I just hope Dermot can see this from my point of view as its been a sit load of head-ache in all honesty & most deflating in many ways.

The way he writes is very confusing. I had this issue with him when i first contacted him and decided not to go any further. I get the gist of most of what he's saying but what does he mean by "i will replace Franks IG88 and catalgue. Can't say any farer than that...." then in the next line he says "Does anyone have one for sale" So he doesn't have the item but is going to replace the one you bought from him? How? :?

One would think after 15-17 years he would have a better understanding how the collecting game works. Thinking things like tears in the baggies were irrelevant because they were still "sealed" is border line ridiculous.

If I were him I would do as others have said and just take a step back, check out what he has again and list it correctly. 8)

These are my sentiments entirely Josh, he should just take a step back re asses the situation & list things with detailed descriptions & clear photos with any damage clearly stated & showing in the photos, I will have a lot of respect for the guy if he is willing to put my issues right & alter his selling stance accordingly & I will be more than happy to state it freely on the boards, but for that to happen a few things need to give IMO, but I feel those things would be for the better of everyone including himself in the long run.

Re the slits in the baggie, I would not be to bothered if it had been a single slit in a top notch baggie, but the baggie its self was very well worn & had several good size slits in it & as you have suggested Josh, this would dramatically alter both the value & its collectability.
