why didnt they use actual pictures of the characters why just the ships, it makes no sense to me ?. i mean the walrus man image is airbrushed badly they couldnt do worse than that surely. so why? TFP and veers at-at commander would of been bad ass

Probably a marketting tactic so you feel obliged to buy the featured vehicle to sit the figure in. Imagine all those screaming kids in the toy stores who didn't just want a TIE Pilot on his own.

Also made it easier for parents to know which vehicle to buy.

Huh....that makes total sense rob :) Which is why the BS is riding his bike on the card too.

What about solo or chewie so they could sell more falcons ? :?

We can see a part of the cloud car and the cloud car pilot in it on the cardback, so that one those not match 100% the other trooper cardbacks.

AT-AT driver there you can see the trooper in the cockpit :?

It's probably because they wanted the toy to be a generic character and not one specific to the film. That way you can buy more than one of each to pilot any amount of AT ST's for example.

I don't think the AT AT Commander is designed to be General Veers despite him being the only commander on film. Once again it's a generic figure meaning you could buy more than one to fill more than one AT AT.

It's a good question but I actually think they are some of the best cardbacks, so I am not complaining :)

I agree with Rob, it's definitely not just coincidence that all of those pilot figures featured an image of the ship/vehicle on the cardback. The emphasis was definitely on the toys you could put those figures in rather than the less important characters themselves.

I know it's not Star Wars but I recently had the opportunity to go through loads of marketing documents and papers for Kenner's Real Ghostbusters line and it's quite remarkable just how much went on behind the scenes in order to create a successful product and marketing campaign. The design/prototyping stage of a toys life is one thing but for every toy and toy line there were also a whole team of "suits" whose job it was to make sure that those toys were hugely successful and they knew their ****!

As someone who is involved within the toy industry I can tell you for a fact that some of the decisions that are made are based on some of the weirdest reasons.

I designed a range of figures called ZOMBIEZZ, little zombie figures that had hidden features like light up eyes or heads that popped off. They were sold all over Europe and the US but in some countries they didn't sell well as it was seen as disrespectful to mock the dead

I think Rob was on the right tracks with his reasoning. It would have been nice to have had a Cloud Car pilot card with the Twin Pod on though.

Spot on in my opinion!

Too true, the AT AT Commander card is possibly my favourite, definitely one of. I actually bought a moc as much for the card image as anything else.

Totally agree with both of you - Inlove the ATAT commander card back, but still haven't bought one
