Awesome Retro Star Wars Toy Review

:|

While I enjoy seeing a vintage toy review, I don't enjoy seeing a box that hasn't been opened for 30 years be clumsily cut open with a blunt pair of scissors. There are loads of these in opened boxes- never assembled. Why didn't you try and find one of those instead?

I think if you avoided opening sealed sets you might be onto something.
Like you said they don't grow on trees

what a load of bollocks

I just don't get it - why open it ?

For Youtube.
That's what really stinks.

I have that bad an OCD I can't even bring myself to open POTF2 beat up MOCs- let alone 30 year old vintage toys. I don't want to turn this into a certain vowel based rant but this is the bottom line:

THERE IS A FINITE SUPLY OF UNOPENED, SEALED FIGURES/ SHIPS. EVERY SINGLE ITEM OPENED REDUCES THAT TALLY.

I am sure some of you will say that there are tens of thousands of certain items (Klaatu) floating around so opening one or two wont make any difference. Well that's a short sighted and flawed argument. Eventually we will end up with only AFA85 mocs and loose figures.
My gut instinct is that people are lazy and cant be bothered to wait and hunt for "mint" loose figures. Thats why people open up carded examples.

Im going for a cup of tea to calm down

Ed

I'm completely with you mate - this makes no sense at all - these sealed items can never be replaced. That is why I switched my focus to MOC's - there are thousands of loose Yak Faces out there but most MOC's are one of a kind in terms of the condition that they are in. With 1 in 20 or 1 in 30 getting damaged every time they are posted around to different collectors or just damaged by accident then these will not last forever.

I don't know why this guy has posted this **** on here and to be honest I would rather it disappear

My 2 pence

It's just some loser that gets a kick out of other people's reactions. Like the people who queue up to buy iPads, and then smash them up in front of other people in the queue. Basically they have nothing interesting going on in their own life, so make it their mission to be controversial. They also think being an internet troll is original.

Wow, I didnt actually think he was doing it to raise an issue.... An agent provocateur if you will. Interesting thought Edd.
I just got the impression he was just a thick, useless, clumsy half wit. :?

Completely agree with you Ed. I'm at work, so I didn't listen to the audio, but in seeing him open up a sealed item, I'm not going to support his show.

My thoughts exactly. What a twat.
Tho i would advise "thumbs down"ing the video. It does put people off watching it when a video has a large number and large enough and youtube will remove it.

Looks like he wasn't too keen on us seeing any more

People like him and Poon don't really get it do they ?

My take was that the purpose was to have an entertaining video of a once and done opening of an old toy. You know, to help collectors and fans relive the fun they had as a kid opening/assembling a new toy, but not open up a copy themselves. Don't hate mates, I believe it was with good intentions (and that box looked to be crumbling away anyway).

I just spoke to my mate (I know him) and he hears your pleas and "gets" it. This was just his first vid. Opinions and feedback matters. Thanks! =)

Love the forums BTW!

Lando I'm glad we have made the difference. Now go forth and review toys that have already been opened!

And don't bloody open any more!!!

I don't see what benefit there is from opening sealed stuff. You can get opened boxed stuff from that era in great condition, take it out of the box, review it, show all the parts etc and nothing gets destroyed.
No true vintage toy lover or collector is going to watch reviews by someone opening toys that have been sealed and preserved for 30 years. (except possibly the people at AFA) It's just an obviously destructive, insensitive and unwise thing to do.
I hope you stick to your word as the video itself showed promise tho you may have done too much damage already with the video you put up.

For a case in point check my limelight. They were all bought already open.

I did think of you Emiel when I was referring to MIB rather than MIB in my original post.

It's a totally unnecessary waste of a sealed toy to open for the purpose of review.
