First I should introduce myself as i'm new to the forum. I'm Andy, I've been a fan of Star Wars since I was a kid and like most of you I used to have a number of figures and playsets that my mum flogged at a car boot sale - I've never forgiven her!

I'm loving the forum as it a hugely valuable source of information from a very knowledgeable group and ive learned a lot already, also I can spend hours looking at peoples collections and purchases which make my credit card weep at the thought of the cost involved.

I've picked up a few loose figures over the years but just recently was inspired to start a small collection, which i'm finding very addictive already. Anyway I have the opportunity to pick up a nice set of relatively minty first 12 figures complete with original accessories but I wasn't sure what I should be paying, i've seen some loose first 12 figures go for what seems like a lot on ebay, £30-£40 for sandpeople/stormies etc. So what should be a rule of thumb price for the first 12 in really good nick?

Apologies if this has been covered many times before but I couldn't find anything using the search function. Also this may need to be in the valuations section but as I don't have anything to value and it was for general discussion I thought this might be the best section.

p.s I don't have a collection that i'm looking to gauge a price for to then sell on ebay, nor am I looking to buy a collection to then flip for a profit, i'm just relatively new to collecting and so want to make sure that i'm paying the right price.

Thanks for any help

Thanks, that's really helpful.

Ive been watching a lot of auctions on eBay to try to get an idea of prices and people seem to get carried away as I've seen lots pretty normal figures go for what seems like a lot, stormie for £30, fixed limb threepio for £45, brown snake yoda for £55!

Hi and welcome. Best piece of advice I could give, from one noob to another:

Stop watching fleabay and check out the for sale section on here. Some bloke named Iain has the occasional loosie for sale

Or even post a Want To Buy thread in the Most Wanted section. The figures will find you!

I would stay away from ebay. I got my 12 nice loosies from this forum mainly Iain and dublinjeff (is he still around?) all well priced and in great condition. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to Star Wars Forum. Not yet another Andy! The first twelve vary in my experience but you can sometimes snag a bargain. For example you might get a mint Chewy for under a tenner but you might pay 30+ for a mint Luke or Leia. Have a look around, check out some listings and make a decision based on that. Steve's figure is in the right ballpark :)

Thanks for the replies everyone, it's really helpful.

The guy wants £300 for the lot which strikes me as a very toppy price, even though they are really nice minty figures, so I'm going to pass. I have a feeling that based on current prices for mint figures that I might end up paying near to that anyway but I'll have a lot more fun finding one at a time!

I wouldn't pay anywhere near those prices. Roughly....

Luke £35
Leia £30
Vader £12
R2 £20
C3PO £13
Tusken £13
Chewie £10
Jawa £12
DSC £10
Han £12
Ben £12
Stormie £12

Rich, since FF 9, a "Jawa" is considered a new form of currency and was gauged to be equivelant to a £20 note :)

Lol, I seem to remember Jason trying to pay for his curry in Jawa's and working out how many Jawa's we needed to pay the bill too

Rich is notoriously cheap but I would agree with the bulk of his prices - this is what I would charge for 'collector grade'

Luke £35
Leia £30
Vader £16
R2 £20
C3PO £20 (stiff limbs)
Tusken £18
Chewie £10
Jawa £20
DSC £12
Han £16
Ben £16
Stormie £16

I think Rich just called you a thieving, robbing bastard Iain

Market forces I am afraid - the fact that I shipped over 500 of the little buggers to Nick probably hasn't helped
