Aussie Red Faces

I dont find it offensive personally but could see how people would :|

I'm with spoons, this day in age it cannot really be right surely?

Is there still much of a race problem down under aussiej?

I don't think we have a race problem. I understand that black face humour is outdated but it was a reunion show and the skit was done by the same dudes 20 years ago. And at least one of them was black already :) Other shows like the Family Guy push boundaries and they're still on TV. Lots of comedy I don't find funny or appropriate but didn't think this was internationally newsworthy

You are right about family guy and most of those similar amimated shows have mild references to race etc..

I just asked about the race thing down under because it has been well publicised over the years that there is a problem there.(wasnt for 1 second suggesting you are :) )

On a slightly different note, last year in atlanta a taxi driver who picked us up was shocked that we was talking to him (he was black) and said racism is still very active over there,I couldnt believe it

You got me all wrong. I am racist :) Nah, there has been some race riots, and publicised Indian bashings but all in all there are **** loads of every type of person over here. (heck I'm an import!) I was an exchange student in Pennsylvania and there was not one black person in the school district  I just found it strange that the US media seemed to take such offence to this "tribute to Michael Jackson" when IMO there are clear racial divisions there. You can't even sit in the front of a taxi in the US, it's rude not to sit in the front IMO here and chat to the idiot driving you around the block pretending not to speak English

I had to laugh when I saw this as there is a show here on Romanian TV where two guys take the piss out of most news events locally or worldwide and when Obama was announced President they both spoke with American accents, had black painted faces and afro wigs lol

I said to Ana at the time if this was in England it would have been pulled off the air lol

I actually don't think that's racist or offensive at all. Especially if it's a reunion thing and they did the same thing 20 years ago.
They aren't setting out to degrade coloured ppl (I'm too lazy to type "people of afro-caribbean descent) nor to make fun at their expense. It's a tribute to wako and a pretty ****in piss poor one, but not racist in anyway. No more so than the Kumar's and their "lets go for an English" sketch is/was racist.
For the record I actually found that Kumar's sketch pretty funny, normally I'm not a big fan of theirs.
Those Aussie blokes are just pish poor impersonators going for a cheap laugh, at their own expense rather than at the expense of coloured people.

And yeah, the Yank on there has a ****ing nerve, but sure!
Not like the media to jump on a bandwagon.................................

we take the piss out of people with ginger hair, people who wear glasses, fat people , people with big ears, stereo types ( scots being tight, french surrendering , irish ... well weasel basically  and english being uptight ) but if its anything to do with skin colour then its called " racism" ... utter **** imo.

Good call jayjedi, that anton du beke got pulled up on his "paki" comment yet el hadj diouf called a ballboy a "****ing stupid whiteboy" and nothing happened at all.

That being said discrimination is still rife and nobody should have to put up with it,although I have been guilty of calling people fat or ginge (who doesnt have a mate called ginge :) ) I have become more considerate in recent years (mainly cos i'm getting fatter  )

Aussies are not racist....we hate everyone equally ;)

As for what's right or wrong on telly...well depends who is watching I guess...I mean I find those telly tubbys offensive...doesn't mean I am going to jump up and down about it...
I think we have basically just got a world full of do gooders who have nothing better to do with their lives except tell us all how to live ours...
For **** sake it's comedy man...It's all right for black people to take the piss out of white people so why not the other way around?????

For the record I can't stand commercial television anyway...ABC and SBS all the way for me....the commecial stuff is just so mindless it makes me sick LOL and we wonder why the world is ****ed...COMMERCIAL television has alot to do with it ;)

it's not to do with skin colour it's to do with treating people who until relatively recently were either enslaved, or certainly treated as second class citizens.

Once those memories disappear 'paki' or 'black bastard' will be no different to '****ing stupid white-boy' - which are all just words

Apart from our Irish friends, unless anyone here is black, asian or Jewish I don't think we really can judge what it's like being persecuted for where we come from, the way we look or our beliefs. As a white boy from England I know i can't

As far as I'm aware there have been no highly-publicised cases of large groups of people being spat on, treated as second class citizens or even being lynched for being fat, or having a big nose or ginger hair.

Spoons.... it's comedy mate..... I am not saying some VERY bad **** didn't go down over the century's at all.. comedy is just a way to enlighten a dark situation IMO... no pun intended
I am a citizen of the Earth by the way. I have a Polish, Irish ,English and Jewish back ground :) so am I allowed to rant then right ? If the people of this planet want to get serious about racism, lets start by becoming one nationality ie earthlings.. It is the only way there will be equality throughout the world :)

josh - comedy is comedy, blacking up isn't

it's from a time when pubs had signs saying no blacks and irish and it belongs in the past

What about that movie "White chicks" ;) black guys pretending to be white women....kinda wouldn't of worked if they didn't WHITE up for the part right...
COMEDY IS COMEDY whether it is morallly right or wrong is another thing altogether...Comedians are known to push the boundaries on subjects like this I don't know what the fuss is all about to tell the truth????? Why now is it all of a sudden wrong????? COZ some fooking do gooder says so?...I don't buy it mate I am afraid :)

Just curious.....So is a Chav a Chav then with you? or a human being? We can't have it both ways now ;)

you're not really getting this are you josh. When were white people persecuted - I don't quite remember?

If those guys had actually tried to look like the Jackson 5 there wouldn't be quite the same issue. It's the fact they blacked up - boot polish just on the faces and a golly wigs.

All they were missing is big white paint around the eyes and mouth, it belongs in the past IMO and a lot of other folk too. You obviously think it's fine and that's your issue.

the michael jackson guy actually made a decent effort - that was a piss take about Michael himself. IMO the other guys are saying 'all the black people in the world look funny', which is why blacking up started.

I've got my opinion you've got yours - I can't see that we're going to agree on this
