I know we try and have a relaxed attitude towards posting ebay links on here, but I was a bit dismayed to an ebay link to the palitoy 45b luke bespin cardback I won the other day being posted on here less than 3 hours after the auction had ended. Several members were quick to spot the potential rarity of the piece and I was a bit worried about being gazumped on the deal. Thought it was best to play along rather than ask for the link to be removed.

Thoughts anyone?

Cheers Jason

There is no rule here in place at the moment tho the issue has been raised several times. I personally try not to post auctions if they are currently running or have just finished. Unless it is a blindingly obvious thing that really isn't going to affect anyone.
I recently bought a trilogo Amanaman for €50. I found this and won it because i put in the time to hunt for it and if it had been outed here i would have been pissed off so i do see why people complain about it.
I'll just add that altho i would have been pissed i wouldn't have said anything as there's no rule here stopping people doing it. An RS member came on here raging and waving his cock about over an outed auction and he was quite rightly told to shove his issue up his self righteous arse.

Maybe a vote should be taken on the agreed etiquette for auction outing. As opposed to a strict "rule".

I don't think we need a 'rule' as such - as long as people on here are prepared to act sensibly

I would be annoyed if something I bought at a good price was gazumped but at the same time, I would hate to think we had the sort of rigidity that they have on RS

I think anything live unless dodgy or retarded (laugh material) shouldn't be posted.

Anything that has ended should only be posted after a couple of days perhaps?

The thing is though with auctions that have ended - whoever wants to talk about them on here has been patiently waiting for them to finish so they can post a link, waiting a few more days might be courteous but its not practical (people forget to post it after a couple of days which ends up meaning no discussion takes place etc)

I'd like to think no one on SWF would back door anyone though so perhaps the answer to a situation like yours Jason is to actually post "I won it" and if anything dodgy happens we can turf the back doorer out?

If someone back doored you they wouldn't be able to show it off here afterwards that is for sure and if everyone knew a member here had won an auction I would like to think it would make them even less likely to go and talk to the seller, if anything they would (or should) say congrats Jase and wait for you to show it off.

I appreciate though it is a worrying time, Andy posted a link to some Trilogo backers in my WTB thread the other month and I had already seen them and was planning on winning the Leia (which I did thankfully) but at the time I did think - "****" - I played along like you did too

I agree with both Pete and Iain. :) If my oponion we dont need a strict rule just a general guideline to not post live auctions unless its something stupid and wait a day or two after auction ending for rare items/ downright bargains.

Yes Pete you are referring to when Joe Y came on here on his high horse about when I posted that auction last year included the Blue Stars/Vlix MOC cant find a link atm :)

A poll would also be a great idea too to find out the general consenus too

Unfortunately it's not just SWF members/regulars that we need to worry about. Anyone can read those threads just by searching google.

Yes, i was fully aware of who i was talking about. Just chose to leave names out of it as those who know him will know who i mean.

I agree but equally anyone on ebay can search completed listings and find it! lol

I know but they don't. People do read forums and see auctions outed and think "ooh, that's going cheap i'm gonna have a bid" My point is it is likely to be something they weren't even looking for but they see it on a forum or on good while browsing for toys, star wars or star wars forums and bingo "what's this?..." I'm not currently looking for a Trilogo Yak and i haven't searched for one in months. IF however, someone posts an auction for one going cheap, or form a seller who "doesn't deliver to the uk" or "doesn't accept paypal" or various other things i know how to get round, then i'm gonna get involved and the poor sod who was probably gonna win it now won't.

Ah I am strictly talking about completed listings though Pete like the one Jason is referring to, his was "outed" after he won it so technically there was no bargain to be had any more, anyone who wanted to **** with the sale from that point on would have had to have talked directly with the seller and got them to agree to a higher price leaving Jason up **** creek.

Live auctions are a huge NO NO IMO - By all means if you know someone is looking for something let them know but that is what the PM function is for.

I give people more credit than some. Anybody looking for a specific item with knowledge of ebay can find it. With that in mind, you may be saving them time in looking, but they will find it anyways. The internet is wide open and google brings everything to you.............so posting links to me, in my opinion...does not matter.

Jason is no where near like that.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I do think posting the ebay links on a well seen forum like this gives the completed ebay auction a lot more exposure than it would get from people trolling the completed ebay listings. Saying that, we are quite a tight knit community and I wasn't really worried about members on here trying to pull the rug from under me. No damage done so all is good. It's good to talk about these things and review from time to time just to see what the general opinion of forum members is.

:)

cheers Jason

Personally I'm all for no links to live auctions, unless there are concerns re fakes/ touch ups etc.
Even then I would reccomend downloading the picture to Photobucket, then post a new link. I don't know if some people realise if you do a "copy image location link" post from the original source it's easy to find the original site ;)

This is at no way aimed at any regulars on here. However I'm sure there are one or two shady charactors who lurk here cough John cough Walsh cough!

Also a two/ three day amnesty for completed listings is a very good idea.

Again to reiterate these measures aren't aimed at any of the regulars on here.

Lastly I am disappointed no one has even attempted some innuendo with "backdooring" you guys are slipping

I personally don't see the need for posting live or recently completed auctions in a thread and I can understand the frustration for interested members, I've seen items before that I've thought may be of interest to a particular member so I simply send them a PM with the link.

Another great idea that I've seen Todd do in the past is post a thread with a vague description of the item and ask who would be interested, first in with a PM gets the link. As Pete said it's not just the regulars that can see these threads and if you want to help out a fellow member posting it publicly ain't the way to do it.

That said I wouldn't crack the shits if someone did :D

I honestly don't care either way.
But I miss Liam outing auctions. It was like Russian roulette, if you were already bidding on one of them. Spiced it up a little.
I was always told, if you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much ****ing space. 8)

That's funny! I don't think JoeY liked playing the Russian roulette with Liam!
He lost.
