I've got two AT-AT and one of them has a green underbelly, the other is grey. Just wondering if anyone knows what the difference is? I thought possibly that one is Empire and one is Jedi but looking at images both seem to be grey. Any ideas?
It's just discoloured, it happens to many grey plastics, especially games consoles. You will see many SNES's with the same '2 tone' appearance. It goes that colour due to the fire retarding chemicals in the plastic.
Really? I have some discolored stuff but I've never seen anything to this extent, the colour seems perfectly uniformed over the entire base with no variation (even inside the screw posts that are hidden away in the body) and the green is really solid/vibrant, almost looks like its a different colour plastic. Guessing maybe the base is made of a different mix or something then?
That back hind leg screw hole has some glue on it as there's a cracked part, also just where the leg clips in there's a black scuff on the surface, might be what you are seeing. Definitely not pained, scrubbed and cleaned the whole thing also checked out the broken part and the colour goes all the way through the plastic.
Could it be two AT-ATs and the original owner replaced the outer? Looks cool like that though. Be surprised if its discolouration and its a full original Piece.
Definitely discolouration as Edd said. Different plastics so different colours, ATATs and AT STs seem prone to these extreme changes. Had an ATST go from grey to green whilst in a loft
Wow knew you could get the discoloration but not that much, learnt something new there, its been like it since I picked it up years ago. Cheers for taking a look everyone I'm happy with it since it doesn't look like damage (to the untrained eye), bit unique. I've got another in storage, hopefully still grey!
As you can see it's quite common/normal for one half to discolour and the other not. It's because the 2 different halves could have been made weeks/months apart with a completely different plastic mix.
