Are Yellow Bubbles more prone to problems and how less desirable do they make the item to a collector?

Hi

Firstly I would like to thank everyone for their responses and their time. I am sorry if my question has irritated people in anyway that was not my intention.

I currently own no Star Wars figures but am planning to start buying shortly it is not my intention to buy and immediately sell (flip) but would hope my purchases would increase in value over time (similar to buying a house). My question on yellow bubbles and UKG versus AFA were asked to try and gain a better understanding on what established collectors thought. My current knowledge base is very poor so I thought joining this site and asking what I believe to be relevant question would provide me at least some of the knowledge to be able to start buying and therefore collecting more confidently.

I heard a quote recently by the Queen's Mother "Memories are everyone's second chance at happiness" I guess I felt these figures would remind me of my childhood a happy time!

Thank you for all your help

As soon as I had my first Palitoy carded figure in hand it took me back to my childhood so the Queen Mothers quote was spot on. Over the years we've had a few strange members who have been on here who clearly have no real interest in collecting other than profit or to just try and wind people up. I apologies if this isn't your intention but you do need to read everyones advise carefully and try not to repeat yourself with your questions. Everyone is more than happy to pass on their knowledge and opinion with areas of this hobby they know about so you have come to the right place but you will also need to read up on things that have been suggested to you as it will help with your own knowledge.

I would say that you really should collect first and foremost as it's something you truly love. I would never buy anything higher than the value that I'm willing to lose as who knows how items will fair in years to come. Take your time when buying that it's the right thing at the right price for you and the general rule is always to find things that are in the best condition for you. Quality tends to be a better thing to have than quantity when buying anything, especially if you do think that you may want to pass it on at some point but I really wouldn't star buying Star Wars times up as an investment. It's just impossible to know where these things will be priced at in years to come so only collect if you enjoy owning them and intend on keeping them for a while. I can understand buying something and then selling it on to upgrade the item, it's what I ended up doing over the years but I always had the original item for a good while before finding an upgrade.

Hopefully that all helps and as mentioned above, try not to repeat yourself with questions. It's what happened before with these other few members I mentioned and can upset people who are trying to help out. One last thing to add is that this is a fantastic forum to be part of with very little trouble that I've seen over the years so if you are going to get into vintage Star Wars collecting it's the place to be. You will learn so much and hopefully be able to add to the knowledge for us all at some point.

Best I can offer is get ****ed

Lindo, take this as a warning.

If you disagree with some one on here either explain your reasons in a polite and civilised manner, ignore them, or take it to PM. Messages like yours are totally unnecessary. I haven't seen anything that warrants it. People get annoyed by newbies coming on and asking 101 questions and then disappearing. I can understand that. After you've been on here for long enough you've see them and their questions a hundred times. Far too often they don't introduce themselves, say "thanks" or even bother to do a search and see if anyone else has asked the same question before. It's just 'I'm here how, someone tell me this' and then they go. I can understand how people find that frustrating. Basic manners appear to be a thing of the past. God, I sound like my granda.
I'm as keen as anyone else for newbies to become long term members but it's a two way street. They need to contribute and make an effort as well. Possibly this was a genuine newbie who will stick around and he just happened to word his first post poorly, maybe we'll never see him again, either way lets keep discussions among current members civil please.
As i said if you dislike someone's opinions either explain yours politely, put the person on ignore (that way you don't see their posts at all) or take it to PM.

No bitchiness on the boards please.

Right now you are 1 step away from a ban, yes.

We don't need that attitude on here.

Just think about it before you pick an argument with a Mod.

I see your siding with the longer term members and that's fine, if you read both threads all the way through you will see why I said get ****ed, I held my temper long enough but was still being goaded with the sarcastic comments hence my response, but like I say your forum your rules so if you feel the urge to ban me for sticking up for a new member then that's your choice.

Dude. Just leave it and move on. I'm not siding with anyone. I just don't want members telling each other to f off on the boards.

Now the matter is closed. Let's leave this thread to those who want to discuss the yellowing of bubbles.

Anyone will risk $10k+ on this? Agustin is a great seller. There are maybe 3-5 of this MOC in existence, if you want it in your collection then you gonna risk it? Definitely not an investment piece!! 8)

Hi

I appreciate the answers I have received but clearly I do not understand how the site works and seem to be causing problems not just for myself but for others also. I have no desire for anyone to get banned on my behalf and clearly some members believe my questions are provocative in nature so I think it is best if I delete my profile and hopefully everything can return to normal.

Thanks for your help.

No need for that Green, these things happen. All sorted now - so lets move on! :)

Saw an auction on eBay recently for a Boba Fett reseal - where the guy had deliberately yellowed the bubble to make it look more authentic :D

It was fully disclosed in the auction, so nothing underhand, but just thought odd that people are now yellowing bubbles to make them look more real. It didn't, by the way, it looked rubbish to be honest!

No need for that. Just a storm in a tea cup. As Joe said, all sorted now. Feel free to stick about and maybe posting in the introductory thread would let a few others know who you are and what areas you are interested in collecting.

I often read members saying that all bubbles are eventually going to yellow, which I understand completely but is there any evidence to prove this? I've got 19 Star Wars MOC and the only one I have which is yellow is a Luke 12 back which I brought from eBay Australia and was yellow when I brought it. The other 18 I have are as clear as the day I brought them and show no signs of any change. Some were brought more than 10 years ago.

To be honest I'm not bothered either way and obviously keep them out of direct sunlight, is there anything else I could do to prevent yellowing? :? :)

Short term maybe not, but I can't recall seeing many really old plastic things in nice condition. This was supposed to be a throw away material remember, it wasn't designed to last 50 years. My money would be on all plastic bubbles going yellow within 100 years, but I think the ones that are clear now will probably stay that way for at least another 10-20 years.

Yellow bubbles are a lot less desirable to me not only because of the way they look, but the fact they are much more brittle. I would not be comfortable posting a MOC with a yellow bubble without some decent protection around it. Graded figures with yellow bubbles are basically ticking time bombs.

My theory is if it has not gone yellow yet and it's nearly 40 years old then is it really going to go yellow before I die? I doubt it, also in my experience more MOC arive damaged ungraded than the ones graded and I buy both. That's just my personal experience though. If you drop a MOC with a brittle bubble hard enough and high enough it will crack no matter what. All my ones that arrived damaged must have took a hell of a wack IMO and that's avoidable.
