Anyone Ever Chromed [Spray] An Action Figure?

I've been looking at this thread the past few days. All I can tell you is that the 'chrome' spray paint you can get generally isn't that great. Well it wasn't for what I used it for.

I do a bit of spray painting on cars and have tried this stuff to do some wheels on my Escort a few years ago. It was crap. The finish is pretty much like the standard silver paint but a little bit smoother, i.e with less metallic flakes. It does create a shiny finish but looks a bit matte. Not really chrome.

My advice is to shop around and read reviews on the paint itself. Maybe some better products out there these days

Also, instead of priming you could rub down the surface with some fine grit sand paper, just to key the surface. If you do prime I would use white primer and not grey. Feather the paint with several coats rather than trying to get coverage with one blast. That way you will avoid runs.

I'm pretty sure Capetown or another long term member was getting a few vintage figures chromed a while back by professionals. Possibly they just haven't seen this thread to confirm etc.

Jedi534 had several figures chromed I think :)

That's the guy.

Well my first attempt was a disaster, i sprayed on the paint too thick and it ran. So i had to start again. I sprayed on thinner this time and added about 4 coats.
It is a better effort but still not a rip roaring success. As you can see the paint is bumpy and bubbly. Don't know why. I'm rubbish at this sort of thing.
Making stuff is haaard!

I probably won't bother trying again. This one took the best part of 2 weeks to paint and dry and repaint and dry. ****ing pain the the arse. But it's up on my shelf now and looks pretty cool all thew same. If you stand well back. 8)
