How much would you expect to pay for an original staff? I want to complete my figure and I'm not sure what a reasonable cost would be.

I'd say up to 20 pounds. Be careful of the reproduction that is almost identical except it floats ( yes a real one sinks unlike most other real weapons)

Personally, I reckon it would be cheaper to by a complete figure and sell off the spare without a staff.

I agree with that, if you buy a repro staff you for the one you sell you may even break even
