The most solid proof yet that ebay's ridiculous, blind, overprotection of buyers is just plain wrong.

I'll keep the story as brief as possible.

Buyer buys an item from me. In the sale it is stated the buyer must message me with required size.
He does not. I message him. Nothing. And again. Nothing. and again. After 4 weeks and 4-5 messages i get an email from ebay.
"a case has been opened for item not being received" etc  :x
I finally get an email from the buyer saying "oops, i opened a case because i didn't receive my item then i saw your messages. So sorry, my fault" etc etc.
So i finally get to send the guy's item.

A few days later i notice the case is still open. I message the guy. "Please close the case" Nothing. I try again a few days later. Nothing. And again after a week. Nothing and again after 2 weeks. Nothing. Even sent a couple of emails to his private email. Nothing. Great, now the guy's gonna get a refund because he forgot to close the case.
So i get in touch with ebay and explain the situation that the buyer is uncontactable and i sent his item out and if that hasn't arrived i would at least expect him to contact me so i can send another one. They say they'll reach a decision in the next 24 hours. Great. Thanks.

The next day... email (you can guess this)... "ebay has found in favour of the buyer and refunded him" etc (about £35). ****ing cunts. I'd always suspected that they did this automatically with no consideration for the situation or the behaviour of the buyer. What a ****ing farce. They should be ashamed.

Sadly as a regular and consistent seller on ebay you become used to unfair and unreasonable treatment both from ebay and buyers so you learn to just let things go and move on. As much as it grates.

A few days later i get an email from the buyer saying he's just been refunded all his money from ebay despite having received his items weeks ago. "yup" I reply.
He goes on: "I'm sending back the £35 plus another £8 for any trouble caused to you I'm very sorry"

Even tho keeping the money would have been tantamount to theft, 99% of buyers would have done and you almost can't blame them. After all, it was ebay that decided they "deserved" this money. However wrongly.
The fact that this guy returned the money awarded to him by the bastards at ebay shows what an utter ****ing farce their buyer protection system is. When a buyer "wins" a case and decides that it is so unfair he returns the money and a little extra with an apology. You've gotta laugh.

Yep, ebay are cunts there's no getting away from that fact and another case to prove it  well played to the customer who returned the funds and tbh I think most people would even if it meant sending a polite message as this situation was clearly avoidable and not your fault in anyway.

So your lack of faith in ebay is justified but your lack of faith in mankind is disturbing

Glad it got resolved money wise but your accout and reputation now has a black mark against its name, can you be bothered to make a fruitless plea to ebay to have it rubbed off?

In a word, no.
I've got to the stage now where i can't be ****ing arsed to play their game anymore. I don't even check my feedback now. I sell **** loads and i can't be doing with the stress of it all. I get about 12 non payers a month. I don't message anymore just open "payment not received" cases and ban them. I get about 8 messages a month from international buyers saying their items haven't arrived. Usually after about 7-8 days. I apologise, say let me know if it's not there after 3 weeks. And ban them. I get about 3 people a month messaging me saying "sorry i purchased this item by mistake can you cancel it" I reply saying "no". Open a case against them. And ban them.
As i sell more and more all this **** is gonna happen more and more often. People are gonna be unreasonable and there's only so much i can do. The odds are you're gonna get a few neutrals and negs along the way. I used to stress so much about it and i used to try to fight them but i just can't be bothered anymore. They really don't matter as much as we make out.

its a shame isnt it, ebay protection is a very automated system, thats why postage costs go up and you need to send even cheap items with tracking/signature.

but like pete says its just not worth the hassle for a business seller, it costs more in your time and stress than its worth.

good to hear the buyer was honest though, that is refreshing!

Bloody hell, sounds like a nightmare but I applaud you for your approach. There is no point in letting it all get to you otherwise you'd be a bitter old man with no hair  If someone wants your item a small % of negative feedback isn't going to put them off so what does it matter, at the end of the day you've got a ton of satisfied customers against the odd few disgruntled ones.

Have to say though as I am only a private seller I'm dreading the day I get my first neg and recently thought it was coming. Have listed a lot of things over the last year and have always been honest with my descriptions but there is always someone out there who isn't going to be happy, thankfully have avoided them to date. Recently I've been selling my daughters Princess sticker swaps and buggered up an order by double selling and the buyer got a bit arsey so I went above and beyond the call of duty to resolve it so as to avoid getting a neg and fretted far too much over it  but thankfully my powers of bribery paid off and Im still at 100% :)

That's it exactly. I'm not saying i don't care. Far from it. I do everything i can to keep my customers happy and when things go wrong from time to time due to a mistake on my part, and with over 200 sales a month it's going to happen!, or an arsey unreasonable buyer, you do your best to make things right but at some point just need to say 'ok, well i've done what i can' and let the chips fall and move on.
In any business there is gonna be stress and to be honest ebay is no worse than any other place, company, provider, landlord etc etc that you use or rely on to make money. It's just part and parcel. With all my bitching, which is warranted!, i'm still very thankful ebay exists.

Really annoying those sellers and buyers that don't respond to mails or messages...
Probably next time wait until the case is closed before going on with the sale?

The only thing surprising is the honesty of the buyer in this case - all eBay's actions are totally expected.

Mumbo: don't fret over negatives and what not, sticks and stones and all that. More import is those shitty Detailed Seller Ratings.

If ever a company was the equivalent of that Little Britain character "Computer sez No!" it has to be ebay. No individual intelligence, ability to judge a situation or even understand human nature. Then again who needs people skills when you can follow a flowchart? It annoys the **** out of me for sure.

BTW, off-topic question it may be, but is there a thread that lists ebay IDs for the guys on here? A "trusted ebayers list" in other words...

After a bad experience I will not sent anything less than with Special Delivery with a proof of receipt and insurance, so there will be no arguments with buyers. eBay are a bunch of idiots!!
