advice on putting together an at-at?

i get bored sometimes trying to complete my loose run of figures and wanted to do something on the side.

Ive been toying with the idea of picking up an old at-at with most bits missing and making it into a little project of doing up, finding the missing parts to make it complete again.

have any of you done this before?

was it easy enough to do?

was it worth while in the end or would it have been cheaper to buy a complete from the start?

I think it's easy enough to find one complete. I bought mine with duff electrics and no bulb knowing I could get a bulb from B&Q and fix the electrics. A small contact replacement from a torch had it working in no time.
Ian probably has one for sale though this weekend, or at the very least some parts.

Yep, I've done this, well I'm still in need of 1 more chin gun. It's definitely more expensive to piece it together but ultimately more satisfying.

I'm sure it's not just me but I like rebuilding the old toys with spare parts found at carboots, toy fairs, the forum and eBay, I think it's the thought of piecing back together something that was torn apart all those years ago.

I've to date done it with a few Snowspeeders, At-At, Ewok village, Slave 1 and of course the vehicle that it's easiest to get parts for...The Falcon

I guess finding original chin guns would b the most expensive and toughest bit of the project! But they r not v hard to find at all as I am sure u know.

Yeh u do get much satisfaction fixing up or completing a vehicle or Playset urself, I did it with the Cantina Adventure Set! It took me around 4 years but ended up with an unused boxed example ie figures and pegs in the original factory sealed baggies and I even ended up with both Snaggletooths in the playset which made it a bit unique :wink:
The hardest part was finding the original insert on its own

I picked up two at-ats at a toy fair recently for £17 for the pair. Managed to make a decent one out of the two and have the rest for spares. The most complete is just missing the head cover and chin guns. The electrics were easy to fix.

So they are cheap to come by. And i am sure to find the missing bits over the next few months. Just takes patience.
