As you may know i have a squidhead focus and and i want to add some expensive stuff to it but as i dont have the money i am thinking of trading / selling my full 96 loose run all with original weapons , have any of you guys gone down this road and regreted it or on the other hand glad to have added that special piece / pieces to your focus

eager to hear everybodys views on this ??

Personally my loose collection is the last thing I'd get rid of- it's how I started collecting and led me to this forum and a world of MOCs and more

On the flip side, it is the easiest thing to put together - there will always be plenty of loose figures, grail items are harder to find and tend to only go up in price

Personally for me the time hunting and the chase, the pick ups in little shops you wouldn't think had SW vintage all adds to the collecting, if you get a bargain on ebay etc. it's that backdrop to a completed loose run that makes it special ( I havnt completed mine yet).

For that reason I wouldn't let them go, but as stated previously its individual to you, so if you've got the bug for a special run, then go for it, and if you regret it you can always go for loosies in the future.

This is the fun and thrill behind SW collecting :D

For me with my collecting it's mainly been about variety, which is why I don't just exclusively pick up Star Wars vintage items. I can definitely see the appeal of focus collecting when you have everything together in one place (joy in repetition and all that), but I know I'd always need some other items mixed in with it to add interest for me.

I think the other comments are right about a loose run being the one of easiest things to put together so I guess it all depends on how much you really want to focus on one character.

Sorry I can't be more helpful but hopefully someone who has let part of their collection go to focus on something else will come forward and help you with your decision.

same with me as well mate as i wanted the figures i had when i was a kid , i know putting a loose run together again would be easy but you are right about grail pieces and prices thats why i think i need to get on the ball and make a decision

you are quite right michael the fun is in the hunt and finally completing a loose run with all original weapons is a real joy and it is the pleasure of completing the run which is making it so darn tuff to make a decision sel/trade/keep

thanks for your advice ian much appreciated

Hey buddy- good luck if you decide to sell.

I'd be interested in the shelf talkers if you decide to sell.

Good luck anyways :)

Remember it's a marathon and not a sprint. But you can buy great loose figures on here all the time

Same as most others. No way would I sell my loose run. They would be the last thing to go.

Looks like you have other stuff that people are interested in :)

Great set of figs - don't do it! I'd really regret it if I did that now - it would definitely be the last thing I sold in my collection. Even the jawa focus would go before that!

Do any of them mean anything to you?

No. Then sell them.

Do what you really want, and then come back to the hunt of the loose safari.

Be honest, once that loose set was done the thrill of the chase has waned.

Do people still sell off their old Star Wars gear at car boots oblivious of it's true value?

I recently toyed with letting a few of my childhood loose spares go, in order to fund completing the loose run. Couldn't do it, way too sentimental. A great man (mumbo) said 'once they're gone, they're gone'. Damn straight.

So now in it for the long haul... :D

EDIT: YAY, 50 posts, no longer a 'new user'

Slim, Iv bought and sold a lot of stuff over the years, stuff that I never thought Id sell. Then once its gone and has been replaced with other stuff I wanted 99% of the time there are no regrets. If your not sentimentally attached to your loose set then let them go as its been pointed out you can put together a loose set again anytime cash permitting. If letting the loose items go is going to let you get some rarer stuff you probably wont regret it. Best of luck. Grant.

It was my loose run that brought me into collecting. I have no desire to collect MOC's, vehicles or any variants for that matter. It was all about a complete set of loose figures, something I never had as a kid.

A complete loose set of figures should be the cornerstone of anyone's collection.

As many have said it's the loose that started my collecting... Although my pride is my ree yees focus my loose collection would go last even for ree yees items!

I find things really tough to sell but recently I've given myself a kick up the arse and offloaded some non-focus stuff.

I've got an incomplete set of loosies, about 10 to get I think and I won't sell them but I'm not likely to add to them either (and I'm normally a completionist). I just find other stuff more interesting at the moment.

So like others gave said, if you want them, keep them but if something is more interesting then ditch em and have fun spending!

decision made guys at long last... the set stays  , my first and only goal years ago was to complete a basic 96 loose run and i must admit completing the loose run was pretty special and everytime i look at it , it sure does feel great to have completed it , i can open the cabinet and pick out all the figures i had as a kid all those years ago take them in hand and i am transported back to the 1980s , great memories alone but when i think of the deals i done with members here and the bargains i picked up on ebay and elsewhere and the swaps as well , if i got shot all that would be gone !

i will just have to be content with adding 1 or 2 quality pieces to my focus every year and at the end of the day thats not a bad thing is it :)

thanks for all the replys guys much much appreciated
