A story similar to the Deber scam

Ok....I may be wrong...and I may burn in hell for this

but there is some kid on Jason's FB group who is getting a shitload of stuff sent to him due his father passing and apparently the only solution to his sadness is by sending him free vintage items (a list of figures, a yak face, vehicles, etc). From what I hear he is most likely legit (an obituary was posted), but from the last couple times the community has done things, they typically end up not being the way they were described. Thoughts?

I don't know.... I mean the kid is asking for any kind of figures including beat to death ones, it just seems like a lot of trouble to go to. I would be more inclined to believe that this is legitimate but then again I like to think the best of people

Seems legit, and he's only asking for beaters and has been in the group 3 months now.

My advice on these charity jobs is don't send anything expensive and that you aren't prepared to write off it it does go bad.

I know this looks more way more legit than the Deber scam...but then again...she/he did not ask for anything either. I guess for me....I f this kid is genuine..then possibly a college fund or donation to a charity in his fathers name.

I've sent him a few beater figures - kid seems genuine - and if not - well then the karma Gods will catch up with him one day

Wasn't the Deber Scam more of a credit card fraud? I thought the idea was he /she she-he spent a small fortune on star wars stuff on credit cards then claimed it to have been stolen for the insurance money? Wasn't the community good will that came afterwards totally secondary to the actual fraud?

It is pretty great how people have clubbed together to do something nice.

Well the executive summary was he was going to sell his star wars figures and then it kicked off in my and other fb groups. Now he says he isn't. I've deleted the thread on my group which was border line cyber bullying.

The bottom line is he asked for beaters, people one upped and sent him last 17 etc. They're his to do with as he likes now. If he wants to sell to buy a gravestone for his dad, go on holiday, whatever, so be it.

I will be drawing a line on the begging threads from this point however.

Not a shocker though. The thing that really grinds me is, even though he is a kid, using the death of a loved one for gain, iS never a good thing, it actually boarders on an ass kicking.

Items or cash can never replace someone.

Totally agree. Wee bastard should get his balls kicked for that. I feel sorry for all the people who stepped up once again to help a brother out. Myself not included this time tho. It's one things to help a fellow forum member out but strange cunts from FB... NO WAY.

Spot on, I wouldn't be surprised if a good percentage of the ones begging for Freebies are just doing it for their own runs and not for children etc or whatever !!!. All these scams, deceptions or what ever they're called should be stacked in a sticky thread at the top of the front page, maybe call it Charity So people can be reminded of the depths some of these types of people sink to in the hobby before falling for another so called "Good deed".

After Deber I adopted this mindset too. unless it's a Nigerian Princess of course that just needs a small cash transfer via Western Union Cash Transfer or something similar :roll: :wink: :lol:
