"I have been coming to ths forum on and off for a few years now and one thing that has remained constant is the bickering between vintage collectors and customizers in regards to their notion of repros hurting the hobby. Vintage collectors ALWAYS bring up the argument that repros are often sold to collectors fraudulently who don,t know any better. Iam calling b.s. Any collector who is worth his salt will not be fooled by any repro regardless of its quality . Any who are have not properly educated themselves about this hobby and have no business in this field until they have. However I very much doubt that the vintage collectors who are so vocal about their opposition to repros care the least bit about less knowledgeable collectors being defrauded. Stop pretending to be some altruistic crusader for ignorant (and gullible) collectors . The real reason you guys hate repros is because of how it will effect YOU. And how it will do so legitimately. As vintage pieces become more and more rare and susceptible to age through biodegration of the plastic while repros become more and more sophisticated , interest in repros will cotinue to increase for their affordability and better durability. This translates to an eventual and permanent crash in vintage collecting which in turn translates to a significant drop in value of vintage pieces as the bottom falls out on the market. Be honest. There is not one of you who has not justified the big money you have spent on your collections by convincing yourselves that it could also serve as an investment. Isn,t that so? You can,t bear to realize that you will certainly lose money when you decide to part with some items in your collections . So stop bringing up this ridiculous argument that you are concerned about others. You are not "purists". You are as greedy as those who sell repros dishonestly"

There you go you have all been told now by the moral compass of vintage collecting. You greedy, dispicable vintage snobs you!

What an absolute twat. I don't know where to begin but first off, to say that a seasoned collector could never be fooled is naive and wrong. It happens. People selling off repros are twats and a danger to the hobby because even if they are honest about them being illegal reproductions, someone somewhere along the line won't be. It's ****ing ignorant to say otherwise. I suppose this guy feels the same about repro weapons and fake, touched up figures too(Woolfies). ??
And too say that vintage stuff will one day loose it's value as it becomes rarer (because now everyone is buying repros) is arguably the stupidest statement i have heard in the hobby so far. It's idiocy is of galactic proportions!

This is why i don't touch RS. There are so many ****ing morons on there. I'm a member there purely to buy and trtade but everytime i'm on there browsing there's some twat saying something idiotic or selling off repros!!
I'd like to think a real, collectors forum, with a respect for the hobby, wouldn't let a member sell repros. Whether they be carded figures, weapons or whatever.

(ok, rant over...)

Never knew that there was so much resentment against vintage collectors, but I guess it fits the trend in many countries regarding perceived elites.

the guy's a twit & a troll

Lee's post albeit long and detailed (Hey but it is Lee) is dead nuts on. So many people act truely concerned and I am sure maybe a handful are, but the truth is most are worried about the devaluation of their collections. No I do not support repro's, but nor do I hate them. They are a fact of life for almost every collectible older item out there.....ask any Coca-cola collector.

ERR,I think you have misread this.Lee B has posted this from Rebelscum and it was posted by a tube called misfit.

Just wanted to clarify that.

That's not Lee's post TFB. And Lee's been around a while. He's not a new member.
He was pointing out a post by someone on RS called misfit. And judging by what he is saying, unlikely a "respected" member of the collecting community.

I guess I did. Sorry for confusing this as Lee's statement, but I agree with this guy................Sorry.

LOL - I'll give you bonus points for even reading the whole thing. (My brain aches). I've never had a problem with repros personally, sometimes
people just want to have an approximation of the real thing, and they are perfectly happy with that. The real problem comes when these either
get resold as originals and the buyer is scammed, or the people making them are doing it for the sole purpose of ripping people off to make money.

This is a good example of a repro that I think is amazing:

The quality of this is the best I've ever seen, but it's also an original piece, so no one could mistake it for the real thing.
(I don't even collect Boba Fett stuff, and I bought one.) If you read the list of people who are buying them, the majority
of them are vintage collectors, so I'm not sure where "misfit" is getting his observations.

Many ARE sold as "vintage" and "original" and most will be at some point somewhere along the line. Ebay is rife with them. I think that's what some collectors have a problem with. Not the odd example of an honest attempt at something resembling (but not actually copying) a vintage product.

I'm gonna get a mate o here to make me a tri-logo Hammerhead. This is because one doesn't exist and i think it would look pretty cool.
That is entirely different to making "knock-offs".

The amazing standards of repros will get the AFA purring, more will need to be verified and buyers will prefer graded examples.

not an altogether bad thing but it will drive prices up

I can imagine it now someone ripping up a cardback to get the weapon to grade it and getting it put in a box,,,,,,,,,sometimes i love my beater focus :D

But repros are fine if sold as that,, and either kept in collections or if sold on sold as repros!!
Eventually they will be rife,, and people will get scammed.
Maybe everytime someone finds one it should be destroyed??

Repros stuff is ok as long as it is very clearly marked as repro. If someone is trying to sell it as original then they are bigger **** than the prick that wrote that.

Hey all

I agree, if it says repro on the package. I think people making repro MOCs should put the word on the packet. If they are an honest dealer they wouldn't have any problem with that at all and it would prevent someone being scammed along the line.

The repro scene has massively fueled AFA which in turn is raising prices that is burying the hobby. The more repro stuff out there, the more people only collect AFA as they have a higher chance of it being legit.

Collecting old toys isn`t cheap and sometimes the closet someone can get is repro. If its clearly maked then thats ok, but I have seen too many people get ass raped on ebay (who don`t give a ****!)

Hey Capetown :D
