A few quick questions

Hello everyone.

Well after nearly 30 years give or take a few, I have decided to try and finish my Star Wars figure collection, I am interested in collecting good condition loose figures and have so far picked up a few on e-bay and need about another 25 to finish the collection, and I was wondering if you could help me with the following questions (apologies if they have been asked before)?

Historically what are prices like at the moment, I picked up a very nice Yoda all accessories, stiff limbs etc for £30, what would I have paid for him say 5 years ago?

I am lucky enough to have Yak Face, but his weapon is missing, I have done some research and can see that the weapon was shared by Barada and Nikto, and was wondering what the market value was for a Battle Staff?

And finally is there a comprehensive list of what should sink and float regarding the weapons, I have been on the Imperially Gunnery site but they do not always say?

To be fair. £30 is top end but if it is a nice one and you are happy then that is the main thing

Most Yak Faces on Trilogo cards weren't packed with weapons at all, however you are right, most people pair him up with the Skiff Battle Staff - you can pick these up for around the £6/£7 mark

The float test is a good starter test to eek out repro weapons - anything that sinks - with the expectation of Logray's Staff, Teebo's Axe, Gammy Guard Axe, Yoda Cane and Amanaman Staff is pretty much likely to be a repro (there are a few foreign variants that sink - however you are unlikely to have these) - the only other thing to note is that the telescopic sabres with Ben, Luke and Darth also sink & float - s that test will not rule out repros for these

Oh dear - this one caught me out in my early days as well - I bought a Yoda on eBay and when the cane sunk promptly told the seller it was a fake - he was really good about it and refunded me some money, even though he insisted it was from his childhood !

Also the snake for yoda should sink too, youll get a good feel for repro weapons as your collection grows the plastic on the fake weapons is a lot less pliable and feel tough

Sounds like you're doing really well with it at the moment. Iain summed up most of the answers to your questions. A Yoda now is going for more than it was a few years ago but £20-25 is about top of the mark for a mint one.
My advise would be to put a "wanted" post up in the wanted section with the remaining figures you need. You should be able to get most if not all of what you need from collectors/sellers on here and from most you can rest assured you won't get repros or C5s described as C9. :roll:

Thanks for all the advice. Yoda was at the top end of the mark, but it did include recorded delivery and I had already bought a couple of figures off the seller and felt he had understated them if anything.

This might be a touchy subject, but I noticed on ebay you could buy re card kits, to me this seems like hours of OCD fun, but I can see there is obviously a problem if people start passing them off, as originals. Why do the makers of these cards simply put re card somewhere discretely on them to stop any confusion? Can the re card kits still be bought? Or is it simply not worth re carding because of the confusion they can cause? To be honest I am thinking of displaying them loose now only trouble is I need to buy a display cabinet.

Any how currently bidding on a Luke farm boy with brown hair in very good condition, how high should I go?

Hi Blue 5 - And welcome to the forum.

The reproduction cards are fairly easy to tell apart from the original - once you have them in hand (although you can pick them out on the ebay pics also)

I think they are awful and should they mention repro on them just as the repro weapons should also state. But sadly they dont

I would display them loose if you are buying them loose, they can look pretty good in a nice cabinet

I agree - I think that the recards look pretty naff and actually the figures look a load better on display loose (have a look at Jez's collection in the showcase)

In terms of the Luke Farmboy - these have been going for big prices recently. If you are 100% sure that the sabre is genuine and in good shape, and that the figures is minty, then you can expect to pay anywhere up to £35-£40 for him

As already stated there are some great loose displays on here that look awesome

I agree with the guys. I would certainly go loose mate. Those reports kits do look a little naff and dont display the same IMO

Got to agree with the guys on her about the recards, but if you can't resist there is nothing to stop you marking them yourself as repro. This way if you sell them on they cannot be passed on as real.

Yeah this is often well worth the extra couple of quid if you know what you're getting is quality. When i started off i can't tell you how many figures i bought from sellers who had them a couple of quid cheaper only to be disappointed when they arrived. It really isn't worth it. So actually with recorded delivery included i think you did ok there.
