A few questions

Hey everyone,
I've been considering getting some of my rarer figures graded by UKG. Ultimately it's because I want to sell my collection. I would be grateful if you could answer a few questions:

It seems to me that officially graded figures are worth more: Do you think it's because they are of guaranteed quality, so you know what you are getting. Or does the display box and certificate add value?

I've got a loose DT luke and a loose VC Jawa that I want to send off. The DT sabre is in excellent condition and the VC is in a good condition as well. Having read through a few posts, I've seen that people would find the best figures possible to go with the accessories: Is that considered a legitimate thing to do? It just seems like cheating the system.

Thanks

For resale, grading of 'rarer' figures ie. DT Luke & VC Jawa is probably a wise idea. It gives buyers piece of mind. I don't think you get a certificate automatically ( I may be wrong ) Swapping figures as long as they are the exact correct figures is acceptable IMO.

OK, if they are an exact match, that seems fair. Thanks!

Here are some "it didn't happen without pictures" pictures I took when I bought them. I know how much people like them:

As you can see, the Jawa could be better. The Luke's not bad, but still not "minty".

I'll see if I can find some better figures before I UKG them.

The leg markings on the Jawa are exactly like that. The cape has the texture described as well.

I'm pretty sure the letters on the sabre hilt read "GG". I got a magnifying glass to it to be sure.

Generally getting figures graded does add value to them, however you will find that some buyers will prefer them not to be graded.

I don't collect loose figures (yet  ) but would really begrudge paying five times the loose price on a basic figure.............. the same also goes for MOC's too. I only have my high ended carded figures graded just because I wanted too!

Personally I don't get why people get MOC's of the likes of Ree Yees, Ackbar, Klaatu etc graded just to add £20-£30 to the resale value. If they tell you they like to get them graded because they like how they look in an acrylic case, then buy an acrylic case

"really begrudge paying five times the loose price on a basic figure"

I agree: Just because a figure is in a box with a grade, doesn't make it any better than a loose one of the same condition. Similar to what Shawn says in his U Grade FAQ.

I've been doing some research on these 2 figures. I'm pretty sure they are authentic. Everything matches up.

The Luke is a 12 Back DT with those COO markings, going by this website: http://www.starwarsdatabase.be/wiki/index.php?title=38180_Luke_Skywalker_International_Vintage

Finding decent matching figures is tricky. I might have to be patient with that one.

This is weird: I dug out my figures to sell them, and now I find myself reading up more than I ever did!

Arghhhhh!! Don't say that; although, you're probably right. Why fight it?

I still need to prune my collection though. Why the hell have I got 7 Bobas etc.?

Something that has always interested me is variations and oddities. The more visual stuff, like the unpainted knee tri-logo Boba, green limbs Chewie, random tan limb Klaatu or factory paint errors, not COO variations. Perhaps that is the way to go.

FYI: I got round to sending off a few figures to UKG. The VC Jawa and the DT Luke both received an 80 grade. I'll update you with a picture when I can be bothered to dig my camera out.

They do look good in their show cases!

Congratulations :)

I must say loose figures do look great graded :)

Looking forward to seeing some pictures ;)

Yeah, they are a little steep! I had more money to spend when I started collecting though. A little patience helped too.

Here are the pictures:

Yep, I'm going to sell them. I'll create a FS thread soon. Feel free to PM me with offers in the mean time though.

tundra9, he can come home to you, for the right price.

Now you're just mean :p

It was a bit, sorry. I'm glad you took it in the spirit it was intended. People seem to get offended easily in forums.
