Hello all,

Got a couple of Palitoy carded figures recently at an auction, got a bit carried away. Both have issues, someone went crazy with a wall stapler & they have holes left by the staples.

Wondering whether anyone could give me an idea of value. Honest opinions sought.

1) Palitoy Hoth Stormtrooper ROTJ 45c

The good news is, I dont think the snowtrooper is a toy tony - loads of them are, so the real ones are probably worth a bit more than they were! I'd say you'd get £100 for this one.

The IG88 is cool (shame about the holes), but not super rare (kind of at the common end of mid-tier for these) - maybe £400?

Just my opinion, im sure others will weigh in.

love the ig88 great looking card... id agree on the £100 for trooper not sure what the IG88 would go for

Did Toy Toni fake 45c Hoth Stormtroopers?

We've chatted about this and I'd generally agree with Max though £400 is perhaps on the high end but not far off, it looks nicer than we thought so that's a relief. Without the holes I would say at least £500. A lot of collectors do like the Bounty Hunters. Snow trooper looks good and I'd agree about the ton mark, the yellow bubble for a white figure probably knocks it down a bit.

I think Ebon got unlucky with this one as the auction house failed to mention the staple holes in the description, which I complained to the auction house at the time. Naughty in my book.

Bidding at online auctions, at least real auctions at auction houses has been a learning curve for me. Naively bidding with just the brief description & photo is not good.
I came to this auction late & didn't get extra info that is available, I didn't notice the holes until it was pointed out later. The T&Cs are pretty clear though & even though the auction house were very professional & polite, they stood by their description as "overall good" & pointed out the fact that the auction description doesn't give the full picture & only by ringing them will you ever get that.

Thanks to Andy & Jason for their help & advice. These weren't quite what I thought they were so I think they'll be moved on to try to recoup some of the £.

Lesson learned.

It's more than naughty, I'd call it deliberately misleading. Looking through other descriptions defects such as edge wear, crushed bubbles and creased are mentioned on listings. Why not staple holes? It's a more serious flaw than creasing, for sure. The cynic in me thinks it's because they are not easily seen from the photos.

Agree with the valution on the Hoth Trooper and would peg the IG at around £350-£375 given the holes. Shame as a real beauty of a card.

Thanks for the valuations too.

I really wanted the IG88, was going to custom case it with a Capture Log, might still get it done?

If the auction house failed to mention the staple holes they should refund.
