2014 Fifa World Cup Thread

Gutted with that, both teams playing out a boring keep the ball as long as you can game, pens were always going to be the end result.

Disappointed though, wanted to see Holland in the final, but at least Messi is in the final, but TBH can't get behind either of the finalists.

You've got to give it to the German team, they have been organised and clinical ( just for a change) played to a game plan and got the results.

Last night was a shame, an early goal would have opened things up and created a bit of space,

Can't get my head around it. They are so off kilter it's unreal, positional play, passing, shambolic defending, it's sad to see really. Although do think the Oscar incident was a pen

Brazil simply didn't deserve to finish higher than 4th, and not that high in reality. So many more of the teams knocked out earlier would have made such better opponents. Mexico, Chile, England..................no, only kidding

Agreed. Brazil flattered to deceive the whole way through. That penalty against Croatia basically got them out of the group and they haven't looked convincing in any game, Cameroon don't count. It was more a case of 10 blokes and one decent player. Ohh and massive home support backed up by seriously dodgy refereeing.

Thiago Silva should have been off inside 90 seconds last night. The initial contact was outside the box but it continued on inside the box, which apparently makes it a penalty, either way i can see why the ref gave a penalty. I have NO idea how Silva avoided a red card though. Robben was 2 seconds away from shooting and no other Brazil defender was within 8 yards. Robben is fairly quick the Brazil defence aren't plodders but bollocks are they quicker than Robben. Therefore Silva is last man and it's a red.
Home team decision if ever i've seen one, and not the only one Brazil got either.

When all said and done that was a goal worthy of winning the WC outstanding early cross and stunning finish.

Better that it was won this way as opposed to pens.

Found it hard, being English, to cheer on either of these considering their recent history against us on the football pitch. Game was as predicted and was settled by a good goal. Overall its been a better World Cup that the previous couple - not sure what to do next week

Congrats to all our German SWFUKers, but be warned............................................the English are coming!!

Got to agree with Iain.

However congrats to Germany they have been knocking on the door for a while now :)

congrats to germany , well deserved , the best team of the tourament for me  , you would have thought khedira missing was a big blow just before the match but the germans have so many quality players all at a young age plus they all gel together and playing for their country means everything to them unlike other teams !!

Messi World Class my ass , over rated hyped up , its one thing playing in that barca team with quality everywhere on the pitch but put messi in an average team and this is what you get ! how the hell did he get that player of the tourament is beyond me , no doubt its thanks to that corrupt sepp blatter! no shots on target in 120 mins ha ha , the argies got what they deserved NOTHING they have been shite all tourament

rant over lol

Yeah, fair play to Germany they were the best team through out the tournament and deserved to win.

I've no idea how messi won player of the tournament. He wasn't bad but he certainly wasn't the best player in it.

The next two weeks are going to be bloody boring with no football on.

i know what you mean , i stocked up on on drink , i am off on holidays the next 2 weeks so plenty of time to work on that

my choice for best player would be Rodriguez , class player

but muller ran that choice close as his all round play for germany is superb , i mean does he never get cramp

Agree with the above comments on the Messi award  :?

He was good at times but come on ... :?

The awards at the end were a joke also - traveling up those stairs only to go back up again

And why not just give the winning team captain the trophy and pass it on like they used to

Congrats to Germany :)

Yep I knew Germany would win it after their first match, streets ahead of everyone else on a good day, although not at their best last night.

Did anyone see this recently? Argentina should have been disqualified, bringing politics in to football is breaking one of the golden rules:

Heard about that. It was pre world cup. I suspect it was that dopey bitch kirchner who runs Argentina (really really badly, for the record) and her government who were behind it, but definitely not something you want to see.

Made cheering for Germany marginally more palitable.

Yeah, strange decision. Imagine what a mess it would be if all countries displayed banners saying what they really thought of each other!

Yep saw that on BBC I think is was. Seems alright for Argentina to bring Politics into football.

I wonder what the reaction would be if England (or Scotland or Wales) had a banner - hands off the Falklands - I think something would be done about it!

Agreed, Germany were deserved winners. Best team in the tournament and no big name stars when compared to Argentina, Brazil, Holland, Spain and to some extend England. They cheat less, dive less, foul less and generally try to play the game as it should be played and just do it better than anyone else.
Argentina were so so all tourney and i don't remember any game where they really looked impressive. Messi scored a few goals in the group stages but was generally awful. And i mean awful. IN the QFs, SFs and the final he was terrible, way worse than Rooney. Not kidding. Him getting the golden boot is a ****ing joke. How about Neymar, comepletely carried Brazil to the semis and bossed a couple of games. James Rodriques, comes from nowhere to score 6 goals in 6 games including on of the best goals in world cup history. The others weren't bad either.
I thought Schurrler had a great tournament. Muller too.
Literally 10 players i could name had a better tournament than Messi. Also, what the **** was that free-kick on the 93rd minute????!   Idiot.
