$200 Parcel £43.24 Import Tax - taking the piss of what!

Thanks for all the input & strong views on this subject guys, looks like I am not the only one who has feeling about this subject, got my parcel today but I will be phoning customs tomorrow to try & get the code I need for vintage collectables, I will then ask any seller I buy from outside the EU to add it in large print to the package, I am in all honesty crapping it as I have committed myself to buying a large collection from a buddy in the US which will be a bit by bit thing as I simply do not have funds for such a large buy in one go, he is thankfully willing to work with me on it regarding on how it is packaged & labelled, but I also have 2 other items on hold awaiting postage from the states till I can get this code from customs.

I for one feel that we are being well & truly taken the living piss out of, its not like this country does not tax us enough on everything else, I filled my car up yesterday & with this on my mind asked the filling station manager just how much they actually made per litre on fuel, I was little surprised to hear that they in fact make between .5 & .7 pence per litre, I used to smoke till 2 years ago & used to (due to nessecity) buy all my roll up tobacco from the black market, the packs I like were Drum light blue (mild) they stated packed in Nottingham & I then lived in Leicester some 35 miles from Nottingham, now the packs I got were not even available in the UK for sale, I would pay £6 for a packet that was packed 35 miles away, then went all the way to Dubai & back again for that price, yet if I wanted the equivalent pack here I would have been paying £13.70 - WTF is going on in this bloody country - its lost the ****ing plot entirely IMO.

The American don't even have to pay ANY import tax & with the UK seemingly trying to follow along in the shadow of the US just when do they plan to start treating us like human beings?? - I for one am looking forward to that day that will never come.

LOL Frank! My Grandad used to work at a tobacco factory in Notiingham before he retired! Perhaps the same one

hay frank i totally agree with you the woman at parcel force told me that custom are upping there anti on these charges because the government want to discourage people from spending money outside the UK so i cant see them stopping f**cking us over any day soon good luck getting your money back

Tom

Don't start me on the number and amount of taxes we pay in this country, it's a ****ing disgrace!
I genuinely don't know WTF they waste/spend it all on either!

I don't have long enough!
I've stuff to do tomorrow night! Plus I don't wanna turn this into a right wing political thread Lol

Safe to say I disagree with the principle behind half the taxes we pay, and about the same if not more for benefits/Gov spending projects.

Update with the usual filth our beloved government puts us through when ever humanly or inhumanely possible

If an item is sent standard post & gets hit with a customs charge you get a parcel force handling fee of £8, but if its sent via Express service you get hit with a charge of £13.50 - WTF, dirty rotten scoundrels charging you more just as they know its an urgent item, which would have got here bloody quicker via snail mail - this I know as I had 2 parcels coming from the states at the same time, 1 via standard 1st class (the one that had the dungeon play-sets) & this other one which is via express & as you all know I have had the play sets a good few days & I still do not have the other express sent parcel in hand - what a farce!

Well I have had it confirmed by the parcel force employee I spoke to that my parcel is valued @ $104 & has the commodity code on the label & in large font on the actual parcel also, customs have simply ignored it & still charged me the 20% tax bracket + Parcel force have had there fee of £13.50 due to it been sent express.

This equates to my $104 parcel costing me another £31.98 - I am ****ing livid, blood boiling & if I had any bloody hair I would be pulling it out in bunches

We are beeing but ****ed by HMRC at every opportunity & it stinks to high heaven IMO.

Next time as well as the commodity code in large font I am going to ask the seller to put down next to it - ONLY LIABLE TO 5% IMPORT TAX - see commodity code - dip-****!

May have to leave the dip-**** bit off, what do you think? got to laugh or I will bloody well cry a river.

GUTTED AGAIN!!!

Can't do any harm!

Surely you can claim that tax back though, phone them (HMRC) up and explain the situation. Parcel force are just doing their job and assuming HMRC have got it right. Ohh and I agree about Parcel Forces fees being a joke, how they get away with/justify that I do not know.

Man this is bullshit, hope you get a result. It would be better to get a ton of stuff shipped to a mate in the states and pay for them to have a holiday over here

Yep same all over the EU tundra - on a side note - Where are our cool pictures you lazy git

I will be putting a claim in but it takes the living piss.

I got that other parcel with standar 1st clas post though with no problems what so ever, though it was also marked with the commodity code but listed as gift & value $35.

BUT! - I think I am seeing a possible pattern forming with the customs, that being that they seem to take less notice of items if sent via standard 1st class post, every parcel I have had via the standard service seems to get through without Taxes regardless of its cash value & every one I have either priority or express seems to get flagged & charged - coincidence? :?

I don't get taxed and I am in the EU 8) *mind you I never got taxed when I lived in the UK either*

its crap, I always ask for 35 dollar gift too at my risk with tracking

A week before christmas I ordered a game controller from Hong Kong for 65 dollars, I thought nothing off it this time to ask for marking as a 35 dollar gift as the item was pretty cheap.

On the first week of January I recieved a letter from parcelforce with a total fee of £26.50 and was so angry as that was nearly half of what it cost thanks to the shitty clearance fee and on top of that it had been in the country on the 23rd of december and i could have gone and collected it a week sooner if i had known instead of them waiting till after christmas to send me the letter.
