This only shows that the hobby isnt what it once was, and its sad i feel so strongly about that. Money rules now and its no longer a case of what you have but how much you can spend. Its got to be some FB tube who wants to spend $1000 more than the next guy.

I normally stand on the side of the fence that say it's up to people what they spend their money on, but this just seems silly, not to mention shortsighted... I know Star Wars vintage collecting is somewhat more niche than luxury watches, but when loose figures start costing thousands this has to increasingly attract the attention of high end counterfeiters. Although I doubt the volumes will ever make it interesting for them, I dread to think what would happen if Chinese factories in Guangzhou were to get involved in the process of making rep figures and accessories.

I feel like I'm pretty much done with the collecting side of this hobby, it's just not fun any more and at least I have other toy interests to keep a smile on my face. Oh well, it was good whilst it lasted.

I always take ebay auctions with a pinch of salt until money has actually been exchanged.Many auctions don't always finalise for many reasons.That said if the sale is legitimate then the crazy high prices continue to surprise me.

It seems to be quite frequently now that we are going "did you see how much that went for"

If a dt vader goes for $20,000 then what price would a rocket fett get these days?

As much as I love vintage star wars.I could think of alot better things to spend 20k on.
Like a world cruise for instance.

Just let these headcases with too much money get on with it. There's plenty of more interesting stuff to collect that's plenty cheaper. A loose DT is boring looking as hell. It's only "rare" as a few folk have decided it is and have built up a frenzy. I wouldn't pay £50 for one if that was the going rate.

Excellent post Ian, and pretty much what i feel. Ill pick up bits and pieces but the toys are generally a no go for me now. Id rather buy a screen used prop with that sort of money. At the end of the day, the only thing about this figure is the saber - nothing says that it is the original figure that came with it, and there is no proof. So all in all, paying $20,000 plus for that is insane.

Dont let it finish you though, there are bargains to be had and a world full of other Star Wars gear to collect

Thanks for the words of encouragement Lee, good to know I'm not on my own with the way I've been feeling and judging by the comments in the thread you started on this subject there's quite a few of us feeling the same way at the moment. It's hard to see this situation changing anytime soon but I'm happy with what I have and it doesn't really get me down as there's always something else that takes my eye.

It's also being sold by CIB, which automatically doubles the price because the buyer will jerk off knowing "Tom has held it!" And that's not a dig at Tom, just the idiotic grading fan boys that buy this crap.

I remember everyone thought it was outrageous a few years ago when somebody (Jordan or Brians Toys?) were selling a MOC one for 25k :lol:

See that's the thing I thought cib was afa and if cib are selling afa items is that not the same thing as grading your own items?
