12 inch figures

The last time I was properly collecting, 12 inch figures were very expensive. Totally unaffordable, actually. Certainly in comparison with the little fellas, anyway.

I've seen a 12" Luke, boxed for £150. I always remember this as a £250-£350 item. So what's happened or am I just wrong in my recollections?

This time round they appear to be relatively (note the word "relatively") cheap. I always wanted a set of them but the price made that impossible. The question is, are there any nasty surprises in terms of cost? Or even worse, are there any nasty repro pieces that I need to look out for? Has anyone got a 12 inch limelight?

The same with all SW it depends on condition, rarity and demand .

Also depends on whether its Kenner , palitoy or Denny's fisher which will all affect the value .

Denny's and palitoy are generally more expensive, sealed is going to be big money, but I have sold a few Kenner examples over the pass couple of years and they sold between £50 and £150

Condition is key

Recent Palitoy and DF Lukes went for over £1k.

Condition and brand can make a huge difference!

I still think the 12" range offers best value for money. 20 odd years ago the price of some of them is the same today. You can pick a really good, unused/opened example of Chewie or Vader for about £150, and that's a big chunk of vintage for relatively no money.

Of course Palitoys, Toltoys, Meccano's and Denys Fishers command a premium but if you want to put together a full Kenner set it's still relatively easy to do. But I think prices will rise again soon...

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I had only looked at Kenner stuff, so wasn't aware of the (not unexpected) x factor for the Palitoy and DF items.

Great, I think I'll have to start picking up one or two of them, once I've rationalized my MOC stuff, of course. Has anyone got a rough valuation for mint in box (say c8) Kenner items? Palitoy is out of reach.

There's a few recent sales here

Some for under £100

Though obviously condition is a factor

IG is tough, but there has been something of a glut of them just recently, all varying condition. £400 plus for a really nice boxed complete one

Yeah, he always was the pricey one to get, but I didn't know he was that much :/

Is that down to anything in particular?

He is the rarest , only produced in smaller numbers , boba fett is also expensive

I guess that makes sense. Saw a Boba had sold for £250 which I thought reasonable. Box looked good. Not sealed but nice box. Think I'll have to put the 12" on hold until I sort myself out in the MOC dept. first.

Unless I see one that's too good to say no to, of course...

Opened Palitoys and DF can still be had relatively cheap if you are not condition savy. I've picked up Luke, Leia, Vader and C3PO for £50-£100 in the last couple of years. None are mint but a C8 Palitoy for £100 has to be worth it
