Display cabinets - alternatives to detolf?

The Vintage Rebellion Ep 45 mentioned that perhaps as collections grow, detolf cabinets might not be the ideal solution e.g. carded and loose figures.

So what other display solutions are available and where can you source them from?

I think it depends what your situation, property and display requirements are. I wouldn't use detolfs or all glass cabinets because I have infants/babies and my display is in my living room, it wouldn't work. I like a wood cabinet with glass doors. There's tons on the market for different budgets and all different shapes and sizes. I have Ikea ones that are nice and deep to fit lots in, ships etc. They do billy bookcases which are cheap and you can get glass doors for them. Another option is shelving and wall displays/cabinets for Moc's or loose figures. Check out the showcase section and you'll see all sorts of displays from people on here.

I think they tend to be bespoke built once your collection starts outgrowing your cabinets. There's a lot of "show us your rack" posts on the Facebook groups and this is what I have gathered.

I'm not a big fan of vertical cabinets like the detolf and prefer wall mounted as to floor standing myself. I saw a great pic where the guy had a bespoke shelf running all the way round the entire top of his room and all his MOCs were sitting on there in acrylic cases. Guessing you could get 100 or so displayed like that with everyone clearly visible on display.

I went for a row of these at a bulk buy discount - well worth it and they bolt to the wall so very stable. They were selling them on ebay a while back for a good price

This is mine- similar to the one above. Got it from Very 3-4 years ago. I mainly went for this one as it fits the Pride SW display perfectly on the shelves. Also got the three acrylic lipped shelves (to the left of the cabinet) from 3D Displays on Ebay. Were pretty cheap and fit Starcases perfectly.

Thanks to all that have so far commented and put up their cabinets. Lots to think about already which is excellent for me to ponder.

If you're handy with DIY then maybe have a go at making a tailor-made display unit.

I had fun making mine plus it was exactly how I wanted it at the time. Now I've started collecting again I'm in the process of doing the same but different design. It doesn't have to be expensive either. I even attached LEDs for night vision.

Always give "Wombling Merry Christmas" a spin in December. Can't beat it.

Lovely display unit Tigerham, great DIY skills.
Andy, saw The Wombles LP in pride of place, now I can't get images of them on ToTP out of my head!!!
I personally use Ikea Billy cabinets with glass doors like Rob, really great for MOCs in acrylic.

I used Detolfs for all my vintage - but then decided to try a narrow Billy from Ikea for my 21/20 backs which seems to work quite well:

Cool mix up there, many thanks. More thinking!
