In the guidelines of the thread to pre-check before posting, I noticed this... "POP = Proof of purchase. If missing (removed) it unfortunately makes the item (a lot) less valuable."

Is this referring to the purchase receipt, or the price sticker on the card?

Neither :) POPS are actually these things:

They were often cut out for mail away offers which is why so many cards and carded figures are missing them. Most people didn't bother cutting them off cleanly so they would just hack into the card from the closest side and leave a gaping hole like this:

In addition not all cards have been butchered to remove the pop, I have a erg and Greedo that look great on display because the pop was more sliced off that just torn off.

If a pop has been removed then the MOC to some is incomplete and worth less. I have a couple with the pop removed neatly and it does not bother me at all. I like to think another collector back in the day was after everything he could get but was respectfull of what he had. :)

But what exactly are those things? Those round stickers, I can't see them close enough, the photo is too small. What's written on them?

They are printed on the card itself, they aren't stickers hence why most cards with them removed have holes in. The round ones have something like General Mills Proof of Postage on them.

As Carl said they aren't stickers, they are printed on the cardbacks. Honestly it's no different than the tokens you cut out for promos on cereal boxes or crisp packets..

The text is "PROOF OF PURCHASE SEAL. GENERAL MILLS CPG PRODUCTS CORP. STAR WARS ACTION FIGURES"

You can see them in better detail in this picture:

Kenner were always more sophisticated than Palitoy with their POPs where as Palitoy asked u to cut out the name plate as proof of purchase :!:

I like to think of it as Kenner overcomplicating it! Why design a POP when the nameplate performs exactly the same function. Good old British ingenuity!!
