Damaged card question

I have just heard back from a seller here on the boards that a MOC that I sent over to him has developed a couple of cracks in transit. I know that they weren't there before hand but he has sent a couple of detailed pictures (below) that show them clearly.

I packaged this one up will in a star case with peanuts and it was also placed in a stong box.

The seller was hoping to send it off for grading but obviously can't now and has asked me what I want to do. Normally I would suggest a partial refund and ideally would not want that card to got back into the post for fear of making the cracks worse. What is the general consensus on here about this ?

You probably will not like my opinion, but It is not really your fault the damage occured. You packed it well and I take it they did not want it insured. I find bubbles are more brittle in the cold temperatures....so I avoid buying or selling carded figures during the winter months. I would not take it on the chin, but that is your call.

See this is a whole can of worms, if the buyer didnt pay for insurance and it was offered then I don't see how the seller is responsible if the item has been packed correctly, everything I have recieved from Iain has been in a star case peanut chipped and bubble wrapped in a strong box. however if you take that route sellers could sell any old crap not show the damage and say it must have been broken in transit, not that I believe Iain would do that I have dealt with him many times and always recieved exactly what I ordered.
Which ever way you go I would from now on only ship uninsured if the buyer takes full responsibility should it go missing or turn up damaged.

For me you should just make a partial refund and then put a claim in from the Royal Mail because you packaged the item up the best you could, so the damage is down to the carrier.

As a new buyer on here I received a card from Iain that had a small crack at the bottom of the bubble that happened in transit but to be honest my opinion was that sending/buying mocs is always a gamble that we all understand due to the fragility of the brittle bubbles.I didn't expect anything from Iain as its just one of those things and I knew that it was packed as good as it could be.
I mentioned it to Iain not expecting anything and I was blown away that he gave me a partial refund. In my eyes that was more than enough.
As long as there are fragile bubbles on mocs in transit its gonna happen, deal with it,build a bridge and get over it.

I second this motion. lain is a great seller everything I buy from him is packed good and I'm in ny lol. Never bought a moc thou, but if they chose not to pay the insurance then it's not your problem.

I had a similar case recently with a bubble lifting. I offered a partial refund 25-30% of the original selling price.

Its now sorted and both parties are happy.

Does insurance cover packaging damage?

To be honest, I think I would struggle with this part of it anyway. I had a similar problem being on the recieving end of this last year - and in this case the other box was damaged slightly. The seller asked me to send back the box which he included within his claim to Royal Mail - and he still lost

I am not sure that I would be able to prove that Royal Mail caused the cracks - and if this is the case they won't pay out anyway
