I popped into Astons today, to buy some bits.. but something disturbed me...

this lot appeared to be sold for £800

http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/astons/catalogue-id-astons10039/lot-9e58db50-df95-4c25-8bdd-a49201483089

Why?

What did I miss? (unless I nodded off and dreamt it)

That's a N64 though :?

I'm aware that there are some consoles that are more sought after as they are first editions, you can tell by the serial number but cant remember if that was for SNES or N64.

Bit misleading that but it does show a N64 and SNES in another photo. The scope is worth quite a bit but I can no way see how that lot is worth £800.

N64 Goldeneye and Ocarina of Time is the golden age of gaming for me. My last N64 with both those games cost a fiver at a boot sale.

£800

Still have a SNES set up in the living room - SNES then PS4 :p

Perhaps it's the boxed games. Some of them are worth absolute fortunes. I only know with SNES and NES games that there are one or two worth a fortune, even more if it's MIB. One that comes to mind is Castlevania. I tried to pick that up for the SNES but it was too much.

NES is the best of the lot. You can go back to a NES now and still play the games. The graphics still look sharp because they are so simple. SNES or Megadrive games look awful. Escpecially the more 3D type games like Stunt Race FX. Mario Kart looks shite now. No idea how we used to be so good at it. :)

I had a SNES that I let go about 6-7 years ago. The SNES itself was worth bugger all but I had a couple of games that hit high money. Square stuff goes for good money. I had Secret of Mana, Illusion of time and another game the name of which escapes me.

I think the games market has changed big time now. Ed has an immense collection of games. These things surface sealed and get graded. Some of these rare graded games go for hundreds. But not this pile of old pony.

4-way Bomberman and Mariocart, marvellous. F-Zero, Super Tennis, mmm. Played Skyward Sword a while back...nice but way too easy, still not a patch on Ocarina. And give me Goldeneye over the soul-less Call of Duty anyday!

Must retrieve mine from my parent's loft. Got a SNES and N64. Think all the games should be there too, but not sure if they're boxed. I remember having the Super Star Wars Trilogy, Starwing, Streetfighter 2 etc for the SNES and Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Rogue Squadron for the 64. Probably have a few I've forgotten about...

Yeah that's way over the top, probably a couple of hundred's worth at most. There certainly are expensive games/consoles but generally only sealed ones or limited editions.

64 was the dogs as mentioned but I did have the SNES to and remember buying SuperStreetfighter special edition blah blah for £75 and people complain about dear games these days!..

I also remember ringing a games cheat line when I was god knows how old and asking how to get passed a certain point on Zelda on the SNES after being stuck for days!

Talking about old consoles I think the Gamecube was underated, got me into online gaming and considering the time period their network was superb!

4 way Bomberman. What a fantastic game that was. The top down version. Simple and brilliant. Absolute chaos :D

Never phoned one of those games cheat hotline things. What happened when you called up? Was it just some computer nerd on the end of the line?

Anyone remember Total magazine? It was a Nintendo specialist mag. Really funny read :)

Thing is with a lot of these games the battery back up will have died so anything that holds records will be pretty much knackered. You can open the cartridges up with a special tool from eBay but fitting the battery requires some skill as they are soldered in and fiddly. I have a Zelda game that still saves but my MarioKart has lost all the records and extra roads.
