I finally got a chance to visit my collection and take a few quick photographs.

I collected all of my MOCs well before the internet, which meant visiting toy shows, making contacts and a shed load of phone calls. I never came across sealed examples of many figures, so ended up making do with opened examples.

Here we go with my selection of the first twelve. I have the bubble for the Jawa, which fell off not long after I bought it. The C-3PO, R2-D2, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker and Death Squad Commander are sealed. Chewbacca and Luke have imperfect bubbles though. I may get the opened ones restored at some point, or perhaps just leave them as they are.

I don't mind the Luke Skywalker 20 back being Kenner, as its probably one of the ones that was carded at the Palitoy factory (I'll put it under the microscope at some point and determine its origin).

The Han Solo really lets this selection down. I was hanging on at the time for near perfect one, which never turned up. I'm obviously seeking a Ben Kenobi. Oh well, one day…

Craig.

Always a joy to see Palitoy's on here Craig! :D

Those sealed ones look pretty mint and also so do most of the opened ones. If you've seen my showcase you'll already know that I don't have a problem with opened/resealed ones and in a funny way almost prefer them as I know that someone played with them once ( ok, so maybe I would trade my collection in for sealed examples but there the next best thing to collect on a budget).

It shows how long you've been a a real fan of all things Star Wars by the way you've invested a lot of time in the early days tracking items down. There are a fair few like minded members on here although I must admit I didn't even think about getting into collecting until the internet came about.

A joy to see.

That's is a great collection Craig. They look fantastic!

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I have just started a 12 back palitoy re-seal collection. Only got Darth Vader so far though.

Hope you manage to find the last couple you need.

Mark

Thanks for the positive words, everyone. I'm aware that my collection needs improvement in many areas and hopefully I'll be able to put a little bit more into it in the future.

I'm moving in to my 20 backs, which are also a real mixed bunch. The Luke Skywalker X-Wing, Greedo, Snaggletooth and Walrus Man are all sealed and in pretty much mint condition. The others were opened very carefully by the previous owner. I have the bubble for the Power Droid, which like the Jawa simply fell off. Again, I'd like to ascertain the origin of the Kenner ones.

So here goes...

Okay, this selection is strictly speaking from The Empire Strikes Back but I thought I'd include them here.

The Star Wars figures on ESB cards have always been by far my favourite and considering that there are only 20 of them, I originally thought that collecting a set would be achievable. The ones that I did come across in my pre-internet travels, you can see right here – so you can see I didn't get very far! I must admit that I was looking out for near perfect examples. I almost didn't buy the Princess Leia considering the condition but I'm extremely glad that I did!

The Darth Vader and Star Destroyer Commander 45 backs are my own childhood items, which I opened at the top like a trap door. The Ben Kenobi is a mint condition 30 back and is perhaps the best figure that I own, although the price label might affect the value. The Kenner Greedo 47 back is also in mint condition. I am very pleased to own the Kenner Chewbacca 47 back and Han Solo 41 back as they make perfect companion pieces, although Chewbacca has perplexingly gone yellow since bought it. The Stormtrooper 41 back was another of the ones that I bought opened. The R2-D2 has also yellowed since I bought it, even though I attempted to keep it out of the light.

I'd like to complete this set of 20 one day, ideally with Palitoy examples.

Out of interest only, does anyone on SWFUK own any MOC Star Wars figures on ESB card? These must be among the most difficult ones to find.

Craig.

Great update and some really nice 20 backs you have there. The Hammerhead one looks to be in great shape for an opened one and it's the one from my resealed collection that I'd still like to upgrade. It's funny how his the one figure I never had as a boy from the first 20 and have never had any real attachment to but when one does come up for sale it tends to have a yellowed bubble or damage to it in some way. I have a Kenner cut card of it that I might fix up onto a Palitoy card back at some point but I'll take a closer look at what shape mines in before embarking on that course of action.

I get the feeling from reading on here that 30 B back versions of the first figures released is possibly one of the hardest runs to complete either sealed or opened. I can imagine it's probably due to children wanting the new Empire range at the time as they probably had the original run. It's a good challenge to set yourself though and at least you're on your way.

Keep the pictures coming! :D

Thanks, I'll always continue to improve my collection - especially any with the ESB logo. Those are the ones that I remember seeing most in my younger days.

I agree with you about the 30 backs. Children were pretty rabid for new characters by then and the possibility of finding examples in mint condition is extremely slim. The Star Wars characters were only released on 30b towards the end of 1980 and were of course issued with different card backs in 1981. I only have Ben Kenobi on 30b and I feel very fortunate to have found it. Have people got very many Star Wars characters on 30b? I doubt it!

I just posted pictures of my ESB 30 backs. I just need Bossk - which doesn't turn up every day but I'll see how I go.

Craig.

Wonderful to see Craig, thanks for sharing. And well done for picking them up in the early days of collecting, when they were a lot cheaper!
Keep the pictures coming please, we know you have lots more Palitoy goodness tucked away....

I wish I had been collecting again before the internet. I bet you had a blast hunting and collecting those beauties.
Great collection Craig, they look sweet.
