Hello!

Newbie here, sorry for the long post, but I'm hoping to get some advice from what seems like a very helpful community. Classic story - my brother and I collected (and played with) Star Wars toys as kids in the 80's and we ended up with a fairly large collection of figures, 122 in total, but a good few of them are duplicates. We have a few ships etc. as well, including the X-Wing. The toys ended up sitting in our parents garage over the last 30 years until I rescued them a few days ago.

A few photos:

My questions:
Are any of these worth any real money today?
How do I best take care of them to preserve their condition?
Should I buy cases for them or is it better to leave them out in the open?

I have not yet paired up the guns and capes to the figures, but I would be surprised if more than a couple of weapons are missing. A few capes are broken though, and only Vader's double telescoped lightsaber seems to have survived. Bobba Fett's rocket does not fire, but they feel "loose" on two of them and solid on the third one.

The condition of these are very good in general, "mint" in many cases, but you can see some paint chips on a few of the more popular characters. One of the Vaders got executed and is missing his head and one of the R2D2's has a broken leg. Yak Face probably got the least play time of them all and feels almost like new.

Thank you in advance for the help, and sorry for the lazy approach, but I'm not quite sure where to start.

Great collection! Yes you have a few valuable ones in there so do some research before selling any.

Some nice figures in that lot.

If you're motivated to sell, I'd look at posting up much clearer images of the figures (front and back) in batches of say 5/6 per picture and that way the chaps can chime in with prices. I'd also look to sell them here on the for sale thread rather than pay through the nose on eBay in fees.

You've already identified the Yak as valuable, there are a couple of Fetts in there that look to be the more valuable Tri-logo (light coloured) ones. Your Max Rebo (blue elephant) are both very blue, thy are prone to fading in sunlight, so might be worth a little more than they normally sell for. The Vader though is a telescoping, not double telescoping from I can see... as I say though photos will help you a great deal.

Weapons are key to the value overall though, so dig them out and pair them up.

If you're interested in their value so you keep them and understand more about them, and eventually display them, then you might want to seek out a cap called Iain Sanderson (itfciain on here), he sells star stands to make sure if you display them they don't fall over and cases etc. too if that is how you choose to display them. If you just want to store them safely he also sells storage bags to keep them and their weapons safe and sound.

Good luck collecting/displaying or selling. :D

That's great news and really helpful advice. I'll go back to pairing up weapons etc. as suggested and get some kind of cases for the figures. Perhaps I'll post some more photos here after I have made some progress, but this is a good motivator to not just leave them sitting in a box. I'm sure I'll find tons of valuable information on these forums, so thanks again!

This should help you with the weapons - and this is useful if you have forgotten some of the names

What a excellent selection of childhood figures you have there. You have nearly all the last 17 there which are the tough ones to get,and most valuable.

With that lot, especially if you have the weapons and you like the vintage figures.I would finish the set,you have an excellent head start to do that if you wished.Or if you were to sell you would make a few quid.

I enjoy posts like these as it shows people are still discovering there old toys.
