Cracks in the bubble question

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. Over the last few years I have bought a couple of MOCs with little cracks at the bottom of the bubbles. Here is an example of one of the figures:

I like the idea of getting my figures graded - already had some done. I was wondering if this type of crack right at the bottom of the bubble would mean the kiss of death for the bubble grade. They are hardly noticeable, but hey, stranger things have happened. Has anyone had any experience of this? Any advice would be much appreciated :)

Thanks,
Gerry

From what I've read any crack makes for an instant 50 or 60 overall grade.
Also, if the bubble is cracked already all having it graded does is remove the possibility of protecting the boys bubble from further damage in transit.

Thanks for the reply.

That's kind of what I heard to. I bought this one back when I had just started collecting. I don't mind the cracks, I just mind the unscrupulous nature of the guy who sold it to me. You live and learn :)

Thanks.

I was just wondering if anyone had a good or a bad grading tale to tell regarding these little cracks, which I think are quite common. I've experienced the elation of getting a figure graded and it doing vastly better than you thought it would, but not the opposite... yet :) I know grading is not everybody's cup of tea, but personally I like it :)

Do tell if you have a tale :)

If you get it graded the crack will get bigger imo upon its arrival back to you in its archive box. It will have no protection inside its case. Get a gw acrylic from jamie or iain if you want the look of a graded figure without the grade.

The only time i would get a cracked moc graded id if it were uber rare(poch, harbert, etc...) and then i would take it to ukg myself and pick it up my self

I bought a graded popup R2 that had a hairline crack in the bottom, which gave it a 40 for the bubble grade. So it could go even lower than 60 for you.

I'd agree with everyone else that you risk the crack growing on the return journey to you - I'd enjoy it as you have it.

Yeah, I think I'll take this one on the chin. I actually have two of my MOCs like this. I'll go for the acrylic case like you suggested. The whole point is to have them. It does not matter one jot to me if my yoda has the tiniest crack in his bubble. Still looks great to me :)

Thanks guys,
Gerry
